Chapter 463
Lemira couldnโt help but feel a mix of surprise and satisfaction as she watched Evelina, who always seemed to hover above her like some untouchable goddess, now kneeling before her, begging for forgiveness. It was a scene she had imagined, but never truly expected to witness. The thought crossed her mind that this must be more torturous for Evelina than if she had been physically hurt.
It was clear that Caspian must have pushed Evelina to her limits for her to resort to such a public display of remorse. As Evelina knelt there, crying her eyes out, she became the center of attention, her voice shaky with emotion. โLemira, itโs my fault that you and Caspian are at odds. Please, donโt let my mistake ruin your relationship. Iโll do anything if it means you wonโt be angry with him anymore.โ
Lemira, standing above the kneeling Evelina, couldnโt resist showing off the bruises on her arm, adding to the drama of the moment.
Janice, ever the protective friend, stepped forward and pushed Evelina away. โCanโt you see Lemira is hurt? Save your fake apologies. The authorities wonโt let someone whoโs done wrong get off easily.โ
Evelina, still on the ground, lowered her voice, a hint of desperation in her tone. โLemira, what do you want from me? You hacked my phone, didnโt you? Installed some spyware to snoop around?โ
Lemira kept her cool, seeing right through Evelinaโs attempt to probe her. โIf I wanted to get into your phone, do you think Iโd need to use spyware?โ
โYou must have. Who else could it be?โ Evelina tried to maintain her composure, but panic was setting in. After her father had warned her to be cautious about potential surveillance, she hadnโt thought much of it until she actually found the spyware. Deleting her conversations with her father was a reflex born out of fear. If Lemira discovered her father was still alive and informed the Langstons, her position and plans would crumble.
โLemira, your accusations make me wonder if youโre trying to cover up something shady. Are you afraid Iโll discover your secrets?โ Lemira retorted, clearly enjoying Evelinaโs discomfort.
โI havenโt done anything wrong. But hacking is a crime, you know. Do it again, and Iโll call the cops,โ Evelina bluffed, knowing she couldnโt admit to any wrongdoing.
Evelinaโs continued kneeling only added to her discomfort, both physically and emotionally. She pleaded once more, โLemira, isnโt this enough for you?โ
Lemira looked down at her with a smirk. โEnough? Weโre far from done. Tell Caspian weโre through unless you disappear from our lives for good.โ
With those final words, Lemira left Evelina behind, a pitiful figure surrounded by whispering onlookers. Evelina, feeling utterly humiliated, struggled to her feet, eager to escape the judgmental eyes.
Despite the dayโs events, Lemiraโs attempt to implicate her turned out fruitless. Evelina considered the possibility that someone else, perhaps Dorianโs mother, fearing her influence over her son, might be behind the hacking attempt.
Resolved to protect herself, Evelina backed up her phoneโs contents. Her next move was to seek out Dorian at the business school, hoping his support could shield her from Caspianโs wrath. She was tired of being on the receiving end of physical abuse and longed for a reprieve.
Meanwhile, Lemira returned to her classroom, finding solace in the support of her classmates and the assurance of TG Groupโs PR team handling any fallout. She knew the Langstons would soon come knocking, especially since she was adamant about pressing charges against Caspian for assault. The battle lines were drawn, but Lemira was not afraid.
