Chapter 468

No sooner had the news hit the internet than it became the talk of the town. Lemira caught sight of Matthewโ€™s statement online, and it seemed clear that Ms. Sinclair was out of the picture. Susanna had been boasting nonstop about her sisterโ€™s impending engagement to the power heir. Now, it looked like Susanna was running out of bragging rights.

After hanging back for a while until the crowd thinned, Lemira and Janice finally stepped out of the classroom. They bumped into Susanna, who was furiously on the phone: โ€œTell those media vultures to zip it. My sister and the Everhart family are already discussing engagement plans. Matthew is just spouting nonsense.โ€

Susanna was on the verge of a meltdown. Matthewโ€™s baseless claims had turned her into a laughingstock among her peers.

As Lemira passed by, Susanna awkwardly ended her call: โ€œLemira, you must be secretly laughing at me too. But let me tell you, Matthew is full of it. Soon, the Everharts will announce their engagement to my sister.โ€

Lemira replied nonchalantly, โ€œThen, congratulations in advance.โ€

โ€œHmph, at least you know your place. After all, my sister is the most sought-after belle in Orvin, childhood sweethearts with the Everhart heir.โ€

Susanna couldnโ€™t hide her pride.

Lemira didnโ€™t linger, walking away with Janice, who whispered, โ€œHeard Susannaโ€™s off the hook. The family that was bullying her dropped the lawsuit.โ€

โ€œHow? I thought the evidence was solid.โ€

โ€œIt was, but apparently, the Everhart family stepped in, and another classmate took the fall for Susanna. She bragged about it before.โ€

Lemira remembered the bullying video she found on Susannaโ€™s phone; the girls were tormented mercilessly. Yet, the real culprit was still at large.

Lemira thought about Asherโ€™s revelation that the car running the red light years ago belonged to the Sinclair family, and someone had fled the scene, suggesting a scapegoat. The real perpetrator remained free. Now, she found out even the Langston familyโ€™s driver was under suspicion. Lemiraโ€™s mind was in turmoil, trying to piece together the past. Could Evelinaโ€™s father have ties to the Sinclair family?

โ€œLemira, your phoneโ€™s been buzzing nonstop.โ€

Snapped back to reality by Janice, Lemira saw Orionโ€™s call. A smile crept across her face as she answered cheerfully, โ€œHey.โ€

โ€œFinished with classes? Iโ€™ll come pick you up.โ€

Lemira recalled Orionโ€™s promise to take her somewhere special after her discharge. She couldnโ€™t help feeling excited.

โ€œSure, but I need to swing by the teamโ€™s base first, to sort some things out.โ€

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll come by later.โ€

After setting a time with Orion, Lemira noticed Janiceโ€™s curious gaze, โ€œWhy look at me like that?โ€

โ€œWas that your boyfriend? You seem really happy.โ€

Lemira coughed slightly, โ€œSomething like that.โ€

Upon arriving at the base, Lemira announced, โ€œEveryoneโ€™s going to spar with me one-on-one. I want to see how much youโ€™ve all improved.โ€ But the atmosphere at the base felt unusually tense. A senior team member approached Lemira, glancing upstairs, โ€œLemira, someoneโ€™s here to see you.โ€

With a puzzled look, Lemira headed upstairs, noting several bodyguards stationed outside. She entered the office to find Caspian, his face almost entirely concealed by a hat, sunglasses, and mask. Lemiraโ€™s tone was icy, โ€œWhat are you doing here? Iโ€™ve said everything that needed to be said over the phone.โ€ Caspian stood up, removing his sunglasses, his gaze weary and defeated. He then took off his mask, revealing a face marred by a hideous, crimson scar.
