Chapter 477
Lemira eyed Evelinaโs tearful performance with a mix of skepticism and alarm. When something seems too good to be true, it often is. What new scheme was Evelina cooking up this time? The crowd of students around them had grown, some even pulling out their phones to capture the moment.
Evelina, with eyes red from crying, pleaded, โLemmy, if you just agree to visit Lucian in the hospital one last time, Iโll be forever grateful.โ
Lemiraโs lips curved in a slight smirk as she stepped forward, taking Evelinaโs hand. โWhy are you making such a scene? Youโre just wasting precious time. Letโs head to the hospital now.โ
Evelina was stunned. Had she heard right? Lemira, agreeing to visit Lucian at the hospital? Given Lemiraโs well-known disdain for such dramatic gestures, this was unexpected. Evelina had banked on Lemiraโs refusal, setting the stage for this very drama. But Lemira didnโt take the bait!
Gathering her things, Lemira tugged at Evelina, โCome on, letโs not waste any more time.โ Reluctantly, Evelina followed Lemira out of the classroom.
Striding across the schoolyard, Lemira could hear Evelinaโs voice trailing behind her, โLemira, since when do you care about the Langstons? Why the sudden concern for Lucian?โ
Lemira glanced back, her gaze piercing. โDid you really think I wouldnโt see right through your little act? Youโre too transparent.โ
โWhat are you talking about? Iโm just the messenger here. Youโre reading too much into it.โ
Fuming, Evelina clenched her teeth. Her plan had been exposed by Lemira. Darn it, she had even arranged for someone to record the event.
With a scoff, Lemira said, โThen letโs get going. You call the cab.โ
Evelina begrudgingly hailed a cab. She wouldnโt have bothered with Lemira if not for her fatherโs insistence on maintaining appearances to continue reaping benefits from the foundation.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Lemira headed straight for Lucianโs room. Hogan, surprised to see her, greeted, โMs. Lemira, what brings you here?โ
โEvelina made quite the scene at school, down on her knees, claiming Lucian was on his deathbed and wanted to see me. How could I not come?โ
As Lemira finished her explanation, Evelina rushed in, trying to justify herself, โLucian, I didnโt mean any harm. I thought seeing Lemira might lift your spirits before your surgery.โ
Lucian frowned. โEvelina, Iโd appreciate it if you didnโt make such decisions on my behalf in the future.โ
โEvelina, Iโve had enough of your so-called โcomfort food.โ I want you out, and donโt bother bringing me food again.โ
Startled, Evelina protested, โLucian, what did I do wrong?โ
โJust leave, donโt make me repeat myself.โ
Lucian was visibly upset.
Resentfully, Evelina left the room, shooting Lemira a smug look. Lemira glanced at the broken bowl on the floor, her tone mocking, โEvelina made it sound like you were knocking on deathโs door. You seem fine to me.โ
Lucian, slightly embarrassed, admitted, โHonestly, Evelinaโs cooking isnโt my cup of tea. You can ask Hogan if you donโt believe me.โ
โYeah, Evelinaโs always pushing her dishes on us, but the boss hardly touches them.โ
Lemira eyed the remnants on the floor. โSeems like โhardlyโ is an understatement.โ She openly called out Lucianโs lie. Lemira had never cared about their blatant favoritism toward Evelina, but their futile attempts to appear impartial were both amusing and pitiful.
