Chapter 477

Lemira eyed Evelinaโ€™s tearful performance with a mix of skepticism and alarm. When something seems too good to be true, it often is. What new scheme was Evelina cooking up this time? The crowd of students around them had grown, some even pulling out their phones to capture the moment.

Evelina, with eyes red from crying, pleaded, โ€œLemmy, if you just agree to visit Lucian in the hospital one last time, Iโ€™ll be forever grateful.โ€

Lemiraโ€™s lips curved in a slight smirk as she stepped forward, taking Evelinaโ€™s hand. โ€œWhy are you making such a scene? Youโ€™re just wasting precious time. Letโ€™s head to the hospital now.โ€

Evelina was stunned. Had she heard right? Lemira, agreeing to visit Lucian at the hospital? Given Lemiraโ€™s well-known disdain for such dramatic gestures, this was unexpected. Evelina had banked on Lemiraโ€™s refusal, setting the stage for this very drama. But Lemira didnโ€™t take the bait!

Gathering her things, Lemira tugged at Evelina, โ€œCome on, letโ€™s not waste any more time.โ€ Reluctantly, Evelina followed Lemira out of the classroom.

Striding across the schoolyard, Lemira could hear Evelinaโ€™s voice trailing behind her, โ€œLemira, since when do you care about the Langstons? Why the sudden concern for Lucian?โ€

Lemira glanced back, her gaze piercing. โ€œDid you really think I wouldnโ€™t see right through your little act? Youโ€™re too transparent.โ€

โ€œWhat are you talking about? Iโ€™m just the messenger here. Youโ€™re reading too much into it.โ€

Fuming, Evelina clenched her teeth. Her plan had been exposed by Lemira. Darn it, she had even arranged for someone to record the event.

With a scoff, Lemira said, โ€œThen letโ€™s get going. You call the cab.โ€

Evelina begrudgingly hailed a cab. She wouldnโ€™t have bothered with Lemira if not for her fatherโ€™s insistence on maintaining appearances to continue reaping benefits from the foundation.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Lemira headed straight for Lucianโ€™s room. Hogan, surprised to see her, greeted, โ€œMs. Lemira, what brings you here?โ€

โ€œEvelina made quite the scene at school, down on her knees, claiming Lucian was on his deathbed and wanted to see me. How could I not come?โ€

As Lemira finished her explanation, Evelina rushed in, trying to justify herself, โ€œLucian, I didnโ€™t mean any harm. I thought seeing Lemira might lift your spirits before your surgery.โ€

Lucian frowned. โ€œEvelina, Iโ€™d appreciate it if you didnโ€™t make such decisions on my behalf in the future.โ€

โ€œEvelina, Iโ€™ve had enough of your so-called โ€˜comfort food.โ€™ I want you out, and donโ€™t bother bringing me food again.โ€

Startled, Evelina protested, โ€œLucian, what did I do wrong?โ€

โ€œJust leave, donโ€™t make me repeat myself.โ€

Lucian was visibly upset.

Resentfully, Evelina left the room, shooting Lemira a smug look. Lemira glanced at the broken bowl on the floor, her tone mocking, โ€œEvelina made it sound like you were knocking on deathโ€™s door. You seem fine to me.โ€

Lucian, slightly embarrassed, admitted, โ€œHonestly, Evelinaโ€™s cooking isnโ€™t my cup of tea. You can ask Hogan if you donโ€™t believe me.โ€

โ€œYeah, Evelinaโ€™s always pushing her dishes on us, but the boss hardly touches them.โ€

Lemira eyed the remnants on the floor. โ€œSeems like โ€˜hardlyโ€™ is an understatement.โ€ She openly called out Lucianโ€™s lie. Lemira had never cared about their blatant favoritism toward Evelina, but their futile attempts to appear impartial were both amusing and pitiful.
