Chapter 514
Lemira watched Evelinaโs retreating figure, her eyes filled with a myriad of thoughts. Once Evelina returned to her room, her expression was as cold as a winterโs night.
Zack quietly entered, carrying a glass of milk. โMs. Evelina,โ he whispered, โwe canโt just sit around and do nothing. We need to take action, or things will only get worse for you.โ
โDo you think I donโt know that?โ Evelina snapped, looking up from the planning documents in her hands. Her eyes fixed on Zack. โI have an idea, but Iโm not sure if you have the guts to pull it off.โ
โTell me, Ms. Evelina.โ
โYouโre being sent back to your hometown tomorrow anyway. Why not get some revenge tonight before you go? Lemira is expecting me to deliver the revised plan. She wonโt lock her door tonight.โ
Evelinaโs voice dripped with malice. โPretend youโre drunk and barge in. What you do after that is your choice.โ
Zackโs eyes gleamed, but he hesitated. โIโve heard Ms. Lemira is quite capable.โ
โI know,โ Evelina replied. โIโll have a maid bring her some milk laced with a little something extra. Later, Iโll check if sheโs drunk it when I deliver the plan. She wonโt be able to fight back by then.โ
Just the thought of it made Evelina feel a sense of satisfaction. Once Lemira was disgraced, how would she hold her head up high again?
Zack hesitated. โBut Iโll end up in jail for sure. How will I live without this job?โ
โDonโt worry,โ Evelina assured him. โIโll give you some money. You can claim you were drunk. Asher wonโt want to cause a scandal by pressing charges. At most, youโll be thrown out.โ
Evelinaโs eyes sparkled with excitement. โItโs a win-win situation. Youโve been single all these years, and spending a night with Miss Lemira is quite the catch.โ
โTrue enough,โ Zack conceded, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. โMs. Evelina, Iโve always admired you, though.โ
โIโve always seen you as a respected elder,โ Evelina replied, masking her disgust with a smile. โI remember you saying that in the Langston family, weโre all the same, and youโd always be on my side. Does that still hold true?โ
โOf course,โ Zack affirmed, taking her hand. โUnlike the Langston family, Iโm loyal. Iโll always protect you.โ
Evelina couldnโt help but cringe at the sight of his graying hair. In the past, she had feared being ousted from the Langston family, so she had deliberately encouraged Zackโs infatuation with her, which had been beneficial in many ways.
She withdrew her hand. โGo have a drink and get ready. Iโll ring the bell when itโs time.โ
โAlright,โ Zack agreed, kissing her hand before reluctantly leaving the room.
As soon as he left, Evelina rushed to the bathroom to wash her hands. Once Lemira was ruined, she would never have to endure Zackโs presence again. Tonight, she would ensure Lemiraโs downfall.
Evelina sent the revised plan to the foundationโs assistant, giving the poor assistant a verbal lashing that finally brought her some relief.
A few hours later, Evelina, holding the revised documents, knocked on Lemiraโs bedroom door. As expected, it was unlocked. Evelina entered.
Lemira was still engrossed in her video game. She glanced at Evelina with indifference. โWait a minute. Iโll be done with this game soon.โ
Evelina felt a twinge of annoyance and glanced at the empty milk glass on the table. Everything was going according to plan. Evelina smirked.
Not long after, Lemira yawned, looking groggy. She stood up. โIโll look at it later. You can leave now.โ
โAlright, make sure to give it a good read,โ Evelina said with a triumphant smile, eager to leave the room and summon Zack.
She couldnโt contain her excitement. โLemira is done for.โ
โAre you so sure about that?โ A voice interrupted.
