Chapter 519

When Lemira pulled out her phone, the room fell silent. Evelina shivered, turning to Asher. โ€œAsher, I think I need to lie down. I canโ€™t stay here and look at that disgusting butler.โ€

โ€œHold on a sec,โ€ Asher replied.

Caspian stepped in front of Evelina, blocking her path. โ€œWerenโ€™t you just so confident? Now youโ€™re trying to run away?โ€

Moments ago, she seemed so sure of Lemiraโ€™s guilt, and now a video shows up, and sheโ€™s bolting?

Evelinaโ€™s eyes darted around nervously. โ€œThe truth is clear as day. Iโ€™m the victim here. Lemiraโ€™s the one who walks away without a scratch, isnโ€™t she?โ€

Why are they still on her case?

Lemira tapped play on the video. The lighting was dim, but it was clear enough: Zack was pinning Evelina down.

Asher looked away, uncomfortable. โ€œTurn the volume up.โ€

This wasnโ€™t something Asher wanted to watch.

Soon, Zackโ€™s slurred words filled the room. โ€œYou think being Ms. Lemira means squat? I still had my way with you. Cross Ms. Evelina, and sheโ€™ll make sure you suffer too.โ€

Lucianโ€™s hand flew out, slapping Evelina across the face. โ€œWhat do you have to say for yourself? How could you be so cruel?โ€

Lucian was stunned. Evelina actually got Zack to do something like this? How did an adopted daughter dare?

Caspian turned to Asher. โ€œAsher, the truthโ€™s out now. Did you hear that? Evelina orchestrated everything, thatโ€™s who she is!โ€

Asher looked like heโ€™d taken a punch to the gut. He glanced at Lemira, guilt in his eyes, but didnโ€™t know how to start.

Then Zack shouted, โ€œIโ€“I was drunk, talking nonsense. I did it all myself. No one told me to. Ms. Lemira wanted me gone, and I couldnโ€™t handle it.โ€

Zack was taking all the blame.

Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. Now it had nothing to do with her. She started to cry, looking pitiful. โ€œAsher, you know Lemmy never liked me, but Iโ€™ve never had any ill will towards her. I couldnโ€™t do something so awful. And anyway, I ended up being the victim here!โ€

Asher, a bit softened, helped Evelina up. โ€œI know you wouldnโ€™t do something like that.โ€

Caspian sneered. โ€œEvelina, you dug your own grave. Serves you right!โ€

โ€œEnough! Canโ€™t you see Eveโ€™s been through hell too?โ€ Asher interjected.

Asher kicked Zack. โ€œLock him in the basement. Weโ€™ll send him to the police tomorrow.โ€

Lemiraโ€™s voice dripped with sarcasm. โ€œWhy not call the cops now? Didnโ€™t Evelina say there was something wrong with the milk I gave her? Letโ€™s do a blood test right now, see if sheโ€™s telling the truth.โ€

Evelina panicked because she hadnโ€™t touched any tainted milk. She quickly turned to Asher. โ€œAsher, letโ€™s hold off on calling the police. Iโ€™m worried about the Langston familyโ€™s reputation. I donโ€™t want this getting out.โ€

If the cops found out anything, sheโ€™d be doomed.

Asher nodded. โ€œEve, youโ€™re being sensible. Go take a shower and rest. Weโ€™ll deal with this in the morning.โ€

โ€œHold on, who said you could leave? Calling the police isnโ€™t just your decision,โ€ Lemira interrupted.

Lemira was stunned. Even with clear evidence, Asher was still shielding Evelina.

Asher walked up to her, his tone commanding. โ€œEnough. You couldโ€™ve stopped it all, but you just watched Eve getting attacked by Zack. Do you really think youโ€™re blameless?โ€

Lemira met his gaze. โ€œItโ€™s called karma, Asher. She got what she deserved.โ€

Everyone knew the truth deep down.

Asher, furious, raised his hand, but Lemira blocked him firmly, her voice icy. โ€œWhat, did I lie? You canโ€™t say you donโ€™t know the truth, but you still protect Evelina!โ€

Asherโ€™s expression changed. No matter what, this couldnโ€™t blow up.

โ€œBut Eveโ€™s been through enough already. Let it go, Lemira. Delete the video.โ€

โ€œDeleting it is not gonna happen. I just got back and got hit with this bombshell. Iโ€™m gonna see this through.โ€

โ€œWhat do you want, then? You heard Zack. Itโ€™s got nothing to do with Eve. Heโ€™s taking all the blame. Even if you call the cops, it wonโ€™t change a thing,โ€ Asherโ€™s words carried a threat.
