Chapter 519
When Lemira pulled out her phone, the room fell silent. Evelina shivered, turning to Asher. โAsher, I think I need to lie down. I canโt stay here and look at that disgusting butler.โ
โHold on a sec,โ Asher replied.
Caspian stepped in front of Evelina, blocking her path. โWerenโt you just so confident? Now youโre trying to run away?โ
Moments ago, she seemed so sure of Lemiraโs guilt, and now a video shows up, and sheโs bolting?
Evelinaโs eyes darted around nervously. โThe truth is clear as day. Iโm the victim here. Lemiraโs the one who walks away without a scratch, isnโt she?โ
Why are they still on her case?
Lemira tapped play on the video. The lighting was dim, but it was clear enough: Zack was pinning Evelina down.
Asher looked away, uncomfortable. โTurn the volume up.โ
This wasnโt something Asher wanted to watch.
Soon, Zackโs slurred words filled the room. โYou think being Ms. Lemira means squat? I still had my way with you. Cross Ms. Evelina, and sheโll make sure you suffer too.โ
Lucianโs hand flew out, slapping Evelina across the face. โWhat do you have to say for yourself? How could you be so cruel?โ
Lucian was stunned. Evelina actually got Zack to do something like this? How did an adopted daughter dare?
Caspian turned to Asher. โAsher, the truthโs out now. Did you hear that? Evelina orchestrated everything, thatโs who she is!โ
Asher looked like heโd taken a punch to the gut. He glanced at Lemira, guilt in his eyes, but didnโt know how to start.
Then Zack shouted, โIโI was drunk, talking nonsense. I did it all myself. No one told me to. Ms. Lemira wanted me gone, and I couldnโt handle it.โ
Zack was taking all the blame.
Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. Now it had nothing to do with her. She started to cry, looking pitiful. โAsher, you know Lemmy never liked me, but Iโve never had any ill will towards her. I couldnโt do something so awful. And anyway, I ended up being the victim here!โ
Asher, a bit softened, helped Evelina up. โI know you wouldnโt do something like that.โ
Caspian sneered. โEvelina, you dug your own grave. Serves you right!โ
โEnough! Canโt you see Eveโs been through hell too?โ Asher interjected.
Asher kicked Zack. โLock him in the basement. Weโll send him to the police tomorrow.โ
Lemiraโs voice dripped with sarcasm. โWhy not call the cops now? Didnโt Evelina say there was something wrong with the milk I gave her? Letโs do a blood test right now, see if sheโs telling the truth.โ
Evelina panicked because she hadnโt touched any tainted milk. She quickly turned to Asher. โAsher, letโs hold off on calling the police. Iโm worried about the Langston familyโs reputation. I donโt want this getting out.โ
If the cops found out anything, sheโd be doomed.
Asher nodded. โEve, youโre being sensible. Go take a shower and rest. Weโll deal with this in the morning.โ
โHold on, who said you could leave? Calling the police isnโt just your decision,โ Lemira interrupted.
Lemira was stunned. Even with clear evidence, Asher was still shielding Evelina.
Asher walked up to her, his tone commanding. โEnough. You couldโve stopped it all, but you just watched Eve getting attacked by Zack. Do you really think youโre blameless?โ
Lemira met his gaze. โItโs called karma, Asher. She got what she deserved.โ
Everyone knew the truth deep down.
Asher, furious, raised his hand, but Lemira blocked him firmly, her voice icy. โWhat, did I lie? You canโt say you donโt know the truth, but you still protect Evelina!โ
Asherโs expression changed. No matter what, this couldnโt blow up.
โBut Eveโs been through enough already. Let it go, Lemira. Delete the video.โ
โDeleting it is not gonna happen. I just got back and got hit with this bombshell. Iโm gonna see this through.โ
โWhat do you want, then? You heard Zack. Itโs got nothing to do with Eve. Heโs taking all the blame. Even if you call the cops, it wonโt change a thing,โ Asherโs words carried a threat.
