Chapter 61
On the other end of the phone, Lucian sighed. "It's not going to be that easy, you know. Lemira is genuinely hurt." He had tried to appease her, but to no avail. Today, she'd left the dining room and hadn't returned home or responded to any messages. In the past, he would have sent someone to find her, even threatened to call the police. But now, he feared angering Lemira, so he could only wait for her to contact him. Above all, he remained wary of that mysterious school doctor. No wonder they hadn't found Lemira earlier.
Marie scoffed. "Lucian, Lemira has been close to us since childhood. We're her favorite brothers, aren't we? I believe if I explain the misunderstandings and sweet-talk her a bit, everything will be fine."
Alaric frowned. "Stay away from her until her exams are over."
"I know my limits," Marie replied.
Alaric hung up, confident in his ability to appease Lemira. He simply hadn't bothered before. A piece of cake. He pulled out his phone and sent Lemira a message.
After logging off her game and returning to her room, preparing for bed, Lemira saw an unread message. She assumed it was from Lucian. Unexpectedly, it was Alaric: "[Lemira, let's meet at the cafe across the school after classes tomorrow. I need to talk to you.]"
Lemira glanced at it, recalled the slap, promptly deleted Alaric's contact, and slept soundly.
The next day, Orion was unavailable, so Lemira took a cab to school alone. Near the school, she noticed a crowd gathered around a flashy car; the occupant's attire clearly indicated they weren't a student. As she exited the taxi, someone shouted, "Lemira's here!"
The crowd dispersed, revealing a handsome boy in uniform exiting the car. His gaze, however, made Lemira uncomfortable. She recognized him: Dorian from the neighboring private school, also Evelina's crush. She hadn't expected him to seek her out.
"You're Lemira? Pretty good-looking," Dorian said casually.
Lemira looked up, her eyes clear and features captivating. Dorian smiled, satisfied. "I'm Dorian. I'd like to be your friend." His words caused a stir among the nearby girls.
"Mr. Draven sure is direct. So cool!" "I've heard he gets a new girlfriend every month, and the number of exes is anyone's guess. Still, some fall for him." "Mr. Draven's family is rich, and he's generous. Most girls can't resist." "Lemira's family is wealthy, but not compared to the Orvin clan."
The corner of Lemira's lips twitched at the comments. In her past life, Dorian had said the same things, but to Evelina. How ridiculous!
At that moment, Evelina emerged from the car, her face contorting at the sight of Dorian with Lemira. She suspected Lemira had ulterior motives. Evelina approached directly. "Lemmy, you didn't come home last night; Lucian was worried sick. You're entangled with that school doctor. How could you spend the night outside with him?"
Dorian frowned, seemingly surprised that Lemira, appearing so innocent, could have such a liberated personal life. Lemira offered Evelina a mocking smile, making Evelina shiver.
"Lemmy, are you mad? I'm just worried you were deceived by that man, that's why I reminded you."
Lemira averted her gaze, her tone ice-cold. "Save your false concern."
