Chapter 62
Evelina's words were clearly intended to damage Lemira's reputation, but Lemira was unfazed. She had no interest in the privileged boy anyway. After finishing her presentation, Lemira headed straight to school.
With her backpack on and her expression impassive, she exuded an aura of untouchable coolness. The watching crowd parted for her as if by magic. After all, Lemira had achieved notoriety with a mind-blowing twelve-hit combo, making her the e-sports community's latest darling and attracting the attention of many teams eager to recruit her. But Lemira was a Langston, and out of respect for Alaric, no team dared approach her. Her academic achievements soared as rapidly as her gaming skills, earning her widespread admiration.
After Lemira left, her classmates buzzed about her accomplishments. Evelina, biting her lip, addressed Donan softly, "You're Dorian, right? Lemira can be a bit difficult. Don't take it personally, okay?"
"Does Lemira often stay out late?" Dorian asked.
"Not usually. Her family is very strict. But lately, she's been spending a lot of time with the school doctor, causing some concern at home. That's why she's been out late," Evelina replied, adding with a hint of regret, "Dorian, please don't spread this around. It wouldn't be good for Lemira's reputation."
Dorian's gaze followed Lemira's retreating figure, his expression noticeably changed. Evelina lowered her eyes, concealing a fleeting shadow of malice.
As Lemira reached her classroom, several boys peered over from outside. Upon sitting, she found more love letters than ever stuffed into her desk, which she promptly discarded after a cursory glance.
A collective groan arose from outside. "Your letter was thrown away! She didn't even look at it!"
"Mine too," another voice added.
Lemira found the noise irritating; she wasn't in the mood for distractions. Her discomfort intensified when Evelina entered, seeing the discarded letters. Evelina, once the most popular girl, had been surpassed.
Feeling unwell, Lemira visited the restroom after class, suspecting her period was the cause. Evelina walked alongside her as she exited. "Lemira, what do you think of Donan?"
Lemira's response was curt. "I don't know him well enough to say."
"But I think Mr. Draven is quite nice," Evelina persisted.
"Can't you stop chattering? If you like Dorian, go for him yourself. Stop bothering me!"
Evelina's eyes instantly reddened. "That's not what I meant."
Wendy interjected, "Lemira, don't get your hopes up about Dorian. The Draven family isn't for someone like you."
Lemira scoffed. "Not someone like me? And youโyou think you're a match?"
The others nodded in agreement. "Makes sense. After all, Lemira's a Langston, and Evelina's just adoptedโhardly the same league."
"Stop it, they might hear us," someone whispered.
Ignoring them, Lemira walked away, leaving Evelina fuming and resolute in her ambitions.
As school ended, Lemira approached the gates, sensing a larger crowd than that morning. She frowned, her intuition warning her of trouble. Stepping outside, she saw Dorian leaning against a luxury car, surrounded by a profusion of roses and candles arranged in the shape of her name.
"Lemira, Lemira, Lemira!" a chorus chanted. "Say 'yes'! Say 'yes'!"
Grabbing a fire extinguisher from the guardhouse with one hand, she marched over and extinguished the candles without hesitation.
