Chapter 64

Alane had just finished speaking when he checked Lemira's wrist. "Let's get you fitted in the car."

Evelina jogged toward them. "Alane, are you upset because of what I said earlier? I was just being honest; I didn't want you guys to start arguing. After all, Dorian has family support back in Orvin, and if things get messy here, Asher will have a hard time dealing with the…"

Alaric was indeed upset. However, the mention of Asher softened his expression. "If Asher finds out this guy's been harassing Lemira, he'd definitely confront the Dravens."

Evelina was momentarily speechless, feeling uncomfortable. Family ties, she thought, always had their privileges. But how did Alane end up here?

Dina asked deliberately, "Alane, weren't you swamped with work? How come you're free to pick us up from school today?"

Alaric sneaked a glance at Lemira, who was gazing out the window, seemingly oblivious to the conversation. He felt a twinge of annoyance at being ignored, but quickly regained his composure. After all, he was here to make amends with Lemira.

"I've been away for a while, wanted to check how you guys were doing," Alane said.

Evelina noticed Alaric's attention was mostly on Lemira and guessed why he was here—probably the team hadn't found a suitable candidate yet.

Lemira, gazing at the vehicles outside, wasn't in a good mood. When she snapped back to reality, she realized they weren't heading to the Langstons' but had stopped at a training base. She saw the SkyBlaze posters and various promotional photos.

Lemira didn't expect to end up here. Once she got out of the car, a crowd appeared and surrounded her.

"Welcome to the team!"

"Goddess Lemira, can I get an autograph, please?"

"Goddess Lemira, could you share how you mastered the twelve-hit combo?"

Lemira frowned unwittingly. She hadn't agreed to join any team.

Seizing the moment, Alaric intervened, "Alright, don't scare my sister. Let's head to dinner."

Lemira was escorted into the base's cafeteria by the enthusiastic crowd. Evelina struggled to maintain her composure, watching the scene unfold.

Alaric, noticing Evelina's expression, quietly explained, "You know the state of the team, Eve. We haven't found the right gunner, and Lemira seems like the perfect fit. I'm trying to mend our relationship."

"Alaric, I understand. You don't have to explain to me. I had a part in what happened last time too. I'll apologize with you, hoping Lemmy would forgive us. If all our family members are on the team, I'll do my best to support you guys!"

Evelina's angelic look relieved Alaric. He knew she wasn't one to hold grudges, unlike Lemira with her tough-to-please attitude. However, as soon as Alaric turned away, Evelina's smile faded, replaced by a darker expression that quickly vanished as she joined the others.

Pushed into the cafeteria, Lemira saw a huge banner: "Welcome Goddess Lemira to the team!" That's when she sensed something was amiss. She pulled out her phone, texting Orion: "Can you come pick me up?" She shared her location.

Alaric approached her, looking a bit awkward. "I know I was wrong during the last match; I shouldn't have lost my temper and hit you. I've had time to reflect and truly regret it. Today I want to apologize publicly, hoping you can forgive me."

Lemira stood there, glancing at the banner, finding the whole situation absurd. She slowly looked up, her eyes cold.
