Chapter 98

Alaricโ€™s anger deepened. โ€œLemira, stop! Lucian was so upset he ended up in the hospital for days, and we couldnโ€™t reach you. Heโ€™s always been so kind to you. He gets sick, and you canโ€™t even show your face?โ€

Lemira stopped, recalling Lucianโ€™s mild stomach ailment in her past life. โ€œLucian was sick?โ€

โ€œLemira, how long are you going to hold this grudge? Lucianโ€™s been practically begging you to come back. What more do you want?โ€ Alaric pressed. โ€œThe stationary breaking before the exam was an accident. Zack already apologized. What else do you want? His life?โ€

Lemira stood, Alaricโ€™s accusing tone ringing in her ears. She felt like the villain. Turning, her gaze sharp, she asked, โ€œWhich hospital is Lucian at?โ€

Alaricโ€™s exasperation was palpable. Lemira seemed to care less about family. Before, if Lucian so much as coughed, Lemira would have been there instantly. But now? Cold and indifferent. He couldn't bear it.

Lemira nodded. โ€œFine, donโ€™t tell me.โ€ She continued walking.

โ€œLemira, are you really not going to see Lucian?โ€

โ€œI just asked, and youโ€™re the one stopping me.โ€

โ€œI was just speaking out of anger,โ€ Alaric retorted, irritated. โ€œHow could you not go?โ€

Lemira remained unemotional. โ€œLucian has Evelina by his side; my presence makes no difference.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not the same! Evelina isnโ€™t our real sister.โ€

Alaricโ€™s voice trailed off as he spotted Evelina emerging from the school building. The atmosphere thickened. Everyone had heard him. Evelina stood there, eyes reddening.

Lemiraโ€™s lips curled into a mocking smile. โ€œAlaric, thatโ€™s your fault. Even though Evelina was adopted, sheโ€™s been nothing but good to our family. How can you say something so hurtful?โ€

Alaricโ€™s face changed color rapidly. He turned to Evelina. โ€œI didnโ€™t mean it like that.โ€

Evelina wiped her tears, forcing a smile. โ€œI know. Youโ€™ve always been kind to me, like a real brother.โ€

Alaric breathed a sigh of relief. โ€œGlad you understand.โ€ One Lemira was headache enough; if Evelina took offense, heโ€™d lose his mind.

He turned back to Lemira. โ€œEveโ€™s always been understanding and obedient, not petty and sulky, running away from home like you.โ€

Lemira admired Evelinaโ€™s performance. She walked away, ignoring him.

But Alaric persisted, following her. โ€œLemira, what have you been up to lately? Got into live streaming or something?โ€ Deep down, he suspected Lemira was the streamer SweetLemon; their voices were identical. Heโ€™d come to school to find out.

Lemira looked up, a smirk playing on her lips. โ€œAlaric, youโ€™re asking if Iโ€™m SweetLemon, arenโ€™t you?โ€

Alaric looked awkward. โ€œDonโ€™t overthink it. Iโ€™m just asking.โ€

Lemiraโ€™s eyes sparkled with mockery. Back when sheโ€™d tirelessly practiced gaming, striving for a SkyBlaze championship, Alaric hadn't shown her this much attention! Now that she was gone, he had the audacity to chase after her. Casually, she said, โ€œSo, do you hope I am, or hope Iโ€™m not?โ€
