Chapter 99
Lemira locked eyes with Alaric. He, too, was eager to uncover the truth.
Alaric, noticing Lemira’s sarcastic expression, felt a sudden clarity. He harbored suspicions; after all, Lemira’s gaming prowess was undeniable. The girl who could execute a twelve-hit combo was no longer the little sister who trailed behind him. She had surpassed him.
Evelina watched from the sidelines, resentment simmering. Stepping forward with feigned concern, she said, “Lemmy, if you really are the streamer SweetLemon, that’s amazing.”
Lemira lifted her eyelids. “Oh really?”
“Yes, you’ve become so outstanding. With you on our team, SkyBlaze is sure to win the championship, right, Alaric?”
Alaric’s face twisted. Of course, he wanted Lemira back on the team! He coughed slightly. “I suppose it doesn’t matter to me.”
Lemira’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “I never said I’d participate in the finals!”
Alaric’s expression froze. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve forgotten your words? You said I was replaceable, that you’d already found a great team member, and that I was nothing special.” Lemira reminded him of their conversation. She wasn't the same Lemira anymore. Hurt and mocked, then expected to return at a mere call? Never. With that, she briskly left the school grounds.
Alaric watched her go, replaying their conversation. Back then, he’d thought he could easily sign SweetLemon. That’s why he’d spoken so carelessly! Now, he realized that account might belong to Lemira. The last thing he wanted had happened.
Evelina chimed in, “Alaric, do you think Lemira could be SweetLemon? Their voices are identical, and she didn’t deny it.”
Alaric clenched his teeth. “I’m not sure.”
“But Alaric, even if this is good news, it means Lemira knew you wanted to scout her and didn’t tell you. She’s been watching you make a fool of yourself!” Evelina emphasized the last phrase.
Alaric felt his ego bruised. “I don’t think it’s her. Knowing her, she would’ve bragged about it if it were true.” But Lemira’s silence persuaded him otherwise.
Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. “I thought so too.” Lemira’s lack of confession indicated guilt. SweetLemon couldn’t be her!
After catching a cab, Lemira visited the hospital. She knew where Lucian would be treated. She easily found his room. Stepping out of the elevator, she hesitated. The room door swung open, and the butler looked surprised. “Ms. Langston, you finally came.”
Glancing into the room and seeing Lucian absent, the butler said coldly, “Mr. Lucian Langston is undergoing treatment. The doctor said the stress affected his heart. He’ll need to take it easy. Come with me.”
Lemira followed him to a quiet corner. Lucian was resting, Evelina by his side, a picture of harmony.
“Ms. Sterling has been here, bringing meals and keeping company, while you didn’t even bother to check in. Mr. Lucian Langston has been good to Ms. Sterling, shouldn’t he be?”
Lemira lowered her gaze. “As long as he’s okay,” she said, her voice self-mocking.
Then, she left the hospital.
