Chapter 28

The car’s hood was covered with smoke, still rising from it. It looked pretty bad. Amaya leaned over for a closer look, and when she saw the extent of the damage, she immediately felt guilty.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen. I’ll cover the costs. Just please don’t report this to the police.”

Blaise turned his gaze toward Amaya. Honestly, this woman wasn’t bad—she was definitely his type.

Amaya nodded. “Best friend and roommates.”

Blaine raised an eyebrow. “Since you’re friends, this should be easy. How about we have a chat?” He waved for Julie to leave.

Julie knew exactly what Blaine was thinking. He was trying to separate her from Amaya, and she wasn’t going to let that happen. Before she could speak, Amaya leaned in and whispered, “Jules, your friend is so handsome. He’s totally my type.”

Julie was left speechless. Well, it seemed her concerns were unnecessary. Instead of sticking around as the third wheel, she figured she’d just head back to her dorm and get some rest.

She stood up. “You two chat. I’ll head out now. Do you want me to come back tomorrow to keep you company?”

Amaya waved her hand. “No, no. Go ahead and do your thing.”

Julie nodded and headed toward the door. Just as she reached it, Blaine suddenly called out to her.

“Jules, Lucian’s in the hospital. Aren’t you going to check?”

Julie froze for a moment. “He’s in the hospital?”

“Yeah, he’s upstairs in a ward.”

“How did he end up in the hospital? I saw him earlier and he was fine.”

Blaine made a face. “Who knows? Can you go check if he’s still alive? I’ll come up later.”

“Okay.”

When I reached Lucian’s ward, the nurse was changing his bandages. He was lying in bed with his eyes closed, probably asleep. Julie quietly asked, “Doctor, what happened to him?”

“He got an allergic reaction.”

Julie froze. “An allergic reaction? Has the allergen been identified?”

Just as the nurse was about to respond, Lucian, still with his eyes closed, suddenly asked, “Why are you here?”

“My friend had a car accident and is downstairs, so I came to check on you.”

She walked over and gently asked, “Are you feeling better? How did you end up with an allergic reaction?”

The nurse answered, “He shouldn’t eat beef or clams in the future. He only had a little this time, but it could have been serious if he had eaten more.” Julie immediately felt a wave of guilt.

Beef and clams? Those were exactly what she had brought him for lunch.

“Sorry.”

Lucian glanced at her and coolly said, “No need to apologize. I only realized I was allergic after eating the food. Actually, I should be thanking you.” Julie felt a little awkward. He really knew how to comfort people.

“Do you want some water? I’ll get it for you.” She wanted to do something for him to compensate for the allergy issue.

“None. Just…”

Julie lowered her head, murmuring, “Okay.”

Lucian pressed his lips together, watching her. “It has nothing to do with you. Don’t overthink it.”

Julie shook her head. Just then, her phone rang from inside her bag. She picked it up and saw an unfamiliar number. She hesitated for a moment before answering, “Hello!”

Julie instinctively glanced at Lucian upon hearing this. He was watching her closely, and a flicker of anger passed through his eyes. It was clear he had overheard Zayn’s words.
