Chapter 62

Julie hadn’t expected Amaya to be so mad that she’d actually slap Christian. The slap sent Christian’s head tilting to the side. He licked the corner of his mouth and let out a low, mocking laugh.

“So, why are you here, Amaya? Are you trying to get back with me? Sorry to disappoint you, but we’ve broken up. And honestly, you look pretty pathetic right now.” His voice dripped with ridicule and contempt.

Amaya trembled with anger, and her face was deathly pale. She’d never been so enraged over a man.

Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself down, but her heart raced wildly and thumped in her chest. She shut her eyes and forced herself to steady her emotions. When she opened them once more, her gaze was calm and cold.

“You’re right. We’ve broken up,” she announced in an icy and resolute voice, devoid of any emotion.

Christian froze. He hadn’t expected Amaya to acknowledge their breakup so decisively. He’d assumed she was here to beg for reconciliation or cause a scene, since she’d been the one to fall for him in the first place. But now he realized he’d completely misjudged her.

Amaya continued, “I just thought, since we started face-to-face, it’s only right to end things the same way. Christian, it’s over between us.”

As she spoke, her gaze drifted toward the woman seated in the main spot of the room. The necklace hanging around the woman’s neck caught her attention, and it was unmistakably from her jewelry box. A wave of disgust surged through Amaya. This man had the audacity to take her stuff and use it to please another woman. It was nauseating. Sure enough, she shouldn’t have tried to find true love among a bunch of jerks.

Before she could make a move, Christian stepped forward and shielded the woman protectively. “This has nothing to do with her, Amaya. Don’t hurt her.”

Amaya’s eyes met his, and she coldly spat, “You’re disgusting. Stealing my belongings to impress your little sweetheart.” Christian’s expression stiffened instantly.

Before he could respond, Amaya strode over to the woman and yanked the necklace off her neck. The woman shrieked in surprise, “What are you doing!”

Amaya stared at the necklace in her hand as if it were the filthiest thing she’d ever touched. Without hesitation, she tossed it into a nearby trash can.

“Nothing. It’s mine, and I don’t want it anymore. Better in the trash than on you,” she replied coolly.

The woman’s eyes reddened instantly. Tears welled up as she turned to Christian. “Christian, look at what she’s doing!”

Christian’s expression darkened under the humiliation. He stepped forward and growled, “Don’t go too far, Amaya.”

Unfazed, Amaya dusted her hands and turned her gaze to the stormy Christian. “You too. I don’t want you either.”

Her words hit Christian like a thunderclap. His eyes darted nervously as disbelief and shock flashed across his face. Before he could fully process her words, Amaya turned around and grabbed Julie’s arm to disappear into the crowd.

Christian stood there dumbfounded. His gaze was fixed on the trash bin where the necklace now lay.

“Christian, is she your girlfriend? She seems so fierce.”

Snapping out of his daze, Christian shook his head and replied flatly, “No. We’ve broken up.”

Yes. They’d broken up, and now he was finally free. As the thought crossed his mind, he raised his glass to the room and announced, “Alright, everyone. Cheers to my single life! I finally got rid of that temperamental old… thing!”
