Chapter 104

Tilting her head, Miranda tried to imagine. Her lack of imagination limited the images she could conjure, but she felt less nervous after speaking with Dave.

In the warmer afternoon water, she and Winter could finally go underwater. There were two types of wetsuits: one-piece and two-piece. The choice depended on personal preference. Winter naturally chose a two-piece, which she thought looked prettier. Miranda, on the other hand, opted for a more modest one-piece.

Even so, they turned heads emerging from the changing room. Someone even catcalled.

Before entering the water, Dave instructed them to acclimate to the temperature. “You don’t need to be nervous once you’re in. I’ll take you to the diving spot first. Our lifeguard is stationed nearby. If anything happens, signal for help, and he’ll come immediately.”

“Okay,” Miranda said, looking ahead. She was excited.

“Alright, ladies. Welcome to the underwater world. I hope you enjoy yourselves,” Dave said cheerfully.

His cheerfulness was contagious, and Miranda smiled. Still, she felt nervous carrying the oxygen tank as she approached the water. Winter held her hand and pointed at herself, reassuring Miranda.

Miranda calmed down. She watched Winter bravely jump in and followed. As she sank, her surroundings grew dimmer, and she felt heavier than on land. Winter descended faster. Due to the current, Miranda almost lost sight of her.

At that moment, Dave signaled that they were 50 feet below sea level. Miranda exhaled and tried to absorb her surroundings. Schools of fish swam past. A transparent jellyfish floated near, opening and closing its bell like a tiny umbrella. Miranda playfully touched the water, and the jellyfish immediately curled into a fist-sized ball before disappearing. Amused, Miranda's nervousness vanished, and she began observing.

Winter, swimming happily, turned to see Miranda observing the fish. Miranda's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she tried to catch one, but the fish escaped. Raising an eyebrow, Winter swam to Miranda, took her hand, and led her in a different direction.

Soon, Miranda saw a vibrant coral reef in the hazy water—a deep blue hill of colorful corals stretching as far as she could see. Unknown tropical fish darted through the corals as if they were playgrounds.

The vivid scene was otherworldly. Miranda finally understood the beauty Dave had described. She followed the fish through a hole in the coral and spotted a starfish. Suddenly, a massive shadow appeared in the cloudy water, blocking the light above.

Miranda looked up and saw a shark directly above her. She gasped. Diving spots are categorized into safe and dangerous zones. Before entering the water, Dave had assured them they were in a safe zone, free from large creatures.

Flustered, she looked around, but Winter and Dave were nowhere to be seen! Realizing the shark was about to notice her, she knew she had to escape or become shark food!
