Chapter 105

At that thought, Miranda turned and swam as hard as she could. The fish around her sensed her panic and scattered. Clenching her jaw, she looked back and saw the shark pursuing her. It was very fast.

She looked around and saw numerous coral formations everywhere. However, she spotted a nearby hole where she could hide. Changing direction, she swam downwards.

On the way, she felt the shark closing in behind her. Not daring to look back, she increased her speed and swam into the hole just in time.

There was a thud as the shark crashed into the reef. Even the coral trembled. The impact forced Miranda's arm backward, causing a sharp pain. She tested her arm; thankfully, she could still move it.

She planned to swim upward once the shark had left. However, several minutes later, she felt short of breath. Something wasn't right. Before their dive, Dave had said one tank could last at least three hours. They had only been underwater a short time. How could her oxygen be depleted so quickly?

Her oxygen was depleting rapidly, and the shark was still there. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead. Finally, the shark swam away just as she reached her limit.

With her oxygen tank on her back, she swam with all her might, signaling for help toward the designated spot. She dared not delay; she could only swim for her life. Once her oxygen ran out, this would be her final resting place.

Her movements slowed as suffocation set in. Her limbs felt limp, and her body sank uncontrollably. She could barely keep her eyes open as she stared at the surface. A little more… just a little more. She could live if she could just hold on a little longer…

But she couldn't hold on any longer. Tears streamed down her face. Just as she was about to give up, a familiar face approached, and a hand reached toward her.

"Mimi! Miranda! Wake up!"

Winter pulled Miranda onto the boat, quickly removing her oxygen tank and unzipping her wetsuit. As air filled her lungs, Miranda gasped.

However, the next second, she felt a sharp pain in her chest and began coughing violently, expelling several mouthfuls of water. As the feeling of suffocation subsided, Miranda felt she had been given a second chance at life.

"You scared the hell out of me! I thought you weren't going to wake up!" Winter punched her playfully while wiping away tears.

Miranda's voice was raspy. "I'm fine."

"When we were in the water, I only knew you'd had an accident when I saw your signal. It took me so long to find you," Winter explained. "When I did, you were already unconscious. I went blank; my whole body went numb." Recovering from the shock, Winter patted her chest. She couldn't imagine what would have happened if she'd been even a second later.

Thank God Miranda was alright. At that thought, Winter hugged Miranda tightly. Choking back tears, she said, "I was so afraid when I was trying to resuscitate you. I was afraid you wouldn't wake up…"

Miranda coughed and smiled. "I wondered who was kissing me. So it was you."

"Hey!" Winter glared at her. "How can you joke at a time like this!"
