Chapter 685: Suspected of Murder

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

I only relaxed when I saw Samson leading the group. โ€œAlpha King,โ€ Frederick greeted him with a respectful bow. โ€œWhat brings you here?โ€ โ€œI wanted to check on things,โ€ Samson replied, then finally turned his attention to me. His expression softened at once. Stepping closer, he asked gently, โ€œWhy are you here?โ€

I narrowed my eyes, tilted my chin toward Frederick, and smirked. โ€œYour man thinks Iโ€™m the murderer.โ€ Samsonโ€™s face darkened immediately. He turned to Frederick, his tone laced with reproach. โ€œIs that true?โ€

Frederick quickly defended himself. โ€œThe evidence points to Ms. Carson as the prime suspect.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible,โ€ Samson stated firmly. โ€œMy people will handle this. Youโ€™ll cooperate with them.โ€

โ€œAlpha, thatโ€™s improper,โ€ Frederick hesitated.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing improper about it. If anything goes wrong, Iโ€™ll take full responsibility,โ€ Samson declared with authority. His commanding presence made the surrounding Beta enforcers instinctively lower their heads. Turning back to me, he spoke softly, โ€œYou should head back.โ€

โ€œAlpha!โ€ Frederick objected, his frustration evident. โ€œWe have both witnesses and physical evidence. The law allows us to detain a suspect for 48 hours.โ€

โ€œDo you not understand plain speech?โ€ Samsonโ€™s voice turned cold, his wolf instincts flaring. โ€œI said Hayley isnโ€™t the culprit. Are you questioning my judgment?โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean that,โ€ Frederick quickly backtracked.

As far as I knew, Samson had always been fair and impartial in handling pack matters as the Alpha King. He never shielded criminals. He stood by me without hesitation because he trusted his keen instincts and had a deep understanding of my character. Frederick, who had worked closely with Samson for years, should have known that. Yet, he was clearly singling me out.

โ€œYou claimed you didnโ€™t mean that, but you still refuse to follow my orders, donโ€™t you?โ€ Samsonโ€™s icy tone snapped me back to reality.

Before Frederick could respond, he glanced up at the police officer observing the scene and shouted, โ€œWhere is Max Green? Bring him here now!โ€

He said it was a suicide case and there was nothing more to investigate.

Samson bellowed, โ€œThe suspect is still here! How could he leave first? Tell him to come to my office tomorrow!โ€

โ€œYes, Alpha. Iโ€™ll deliver the message,โ€ the officer replied, his legs trembling.

Turning back to Frederick, Samson gave him a condescending look. โ€œDid you hear that? Max is the most skilled forensic expert we have. Heโ€™s already determined there was no foul play, which means thereโ€™s no suspect.โ€

โ€œAre you keeping Hayley here for the sake of justice, or is this personal?โ€

โ€œAlpha, how could you question my intentions?โ€ Frederick looked hurt.

โ€œYouโ€™re doubting Hayley, arenโ€™t you? Why shouldnโ€™t I doubt you?โ€ Samsonโ€™s tone grew colder. He then ordered his Beta, โ€œIssue a medical leave for Captain Langston. He needs time to clear his head so he doesnโ€™t let personal feelings interfere with his duty.โ€

Frederick stared at Samson in disbelief. โ€œAre you suspending me because of her?โ€

โ€œThink what you want,โ€ Samson said indifferently before walking away with me.

Frederickโ€™s POV:

As I watched Hayley leave, my frustration boiled over, and I hurled my phone. She was just a little pretty โ€“ was that enough for everyone to shield her, even at the risk of seeming biased? Even the Alpha King I respected the most wasnโ€™t any different. Hayley, just wait and see! Iโ€™d uncover your secrets!
