Chapter 509
Edie was dragged from the car and unceremoniously dumped on the roadside by the bodyguards. "I dare you!" she roared, outraged. "Do you have any idea who I am?" Her once exquisite outfit was ruined.
Ignoring her threats, the bodyguards casually wiped their hands. "Who do you think you are? You're just the garbage Mr. Stewart tossed out. You took advantage of Mr. Stewart's respect to do wicked things. You thought you were important because he ignored your mistakes."
"If you were really somebody, you wouldn't have been cast out of the Stewart family. It's clear that people like you are only suited to marry into a family like the Bennetts and endure humiliation. You and Henry are a perfect match. Hurry up and hug your good-for-nothing husband's thigh and stop harassing Mr. Stewart."
Treated with unbearable disdain, Edie trembled with fury. She hadn't expected the Stewart family's bodyguards to look down on her so much. She was even more shocked that Percival had frozen the Stewart family assets and transferred everything to Odalys.
"Are you trying to upset me? That woman deserves absolutely nothing!" Just then, Edie's phone vibrated. The call visibly shook her, draining the color from her face and making her sway unsteadily.
"What are you saying? My apartment was ransacked? The antiques I brought from the Stewart family… they're gone? That's impossible! Who would dare touch my things?" Edie nearly fainted with rage.
She clicked on the video response and watched in horror as a group of black-suited bodyguards broke into her apartment, stealing all her antiques—a collection Percival's father had amassed.
Edie's eyes blazed with anger as she gripped her phone, her body still trembling. She'd had someone move her things after leaving the Stewart family, never imagining Percival had been targeting them for so long.
"Odalys must have been deceiving Percival. I'm his mother! How else could he have been so heartless to me? He used to indulge my every whim, even when I took the Stewart family's resources and projects for myself. He didn't even object when I transferred funds. So why is he suddenly demanding their return?"
Edie couldn't grasp it. Biting her lip, her eyes burned with hatred as the image of Percival protecting Odalys nearly choked her.
Just then, Edie's phone vibrated. Before she could answer, the caller said, "Your apartment has been sealed. All your belongings have been packed and sent to the Bennett Villa."
"What? My apartment is sealed? Who did that?" Edie's eyes widened in disbelief. After her eviction from the Stewart family, all she had left was this apartment and its antiques. Now, with the antiques gone, she couldn't afford to lose the apartment.
"Of course, the Stewart family!" the other party said and hung up.
Edie shivered. Her phone buzzed with a call from the Simpsons. She had been avoiding it, but ignoring it any longer would have serious consequences.
"Edie, what's happening? Why is the Stewart family suddenly against us? They froze our accounts, took all our funds, and even halted and took over all the projects they initiated. They have completely drained our family's resources. Didn't you say Percival agreed to everything? Why is he suddenly making things so difficult for us?" The person on the other end raged.
Edie's face contorted. "Mom, I don't know! I'll ask about it," she said, guilt lacing her voice, and quickly hung up. The scene replayed in her mind, and she suddenly remembered key information Odalys had mentioned.
Edie wondered, "Love Spell? Odalys said the Love Spell could save my period. Could it also help the Simpson family through their difficulties? I know Sophia was manipulating Finnlan for the Love Spell before."
She was surprised to find herself considering the Love Spell, unaware that it was a trap Odalys had set for her. As long as she wished, she could always turn to Sophia for help, but accepting the Love Spell would bind her to the Bennett family.
When she thought of this, she was invigorated. Just as she was about to hail a taxi, her phone vibrated again.
"What's the matter?" Edie asked impatiently.
On the other end, Hannah was silent for a long time before saying, "We don't have to be so distant. When we were young, we were best friends."
Edie remained silent.
Hannah continued, "When you married into the Stewart family, we completely drifted apart because we were both so confident back then. Now, your situation isn't any better than mine. Since neither of us has a choice, are you interested in the plan we discussed at the hospital last time?"
Edie was confused. "What plan?" She couldn't remember anything. It seemed she and Hannah hadn't made any plans together.
Hannah began, "Find the opportunity to drug Evander. As long as one of us gets pregnant with his child, the child will have the right to inherit the Stewart family fortune. Now that you can't go back to the Stewart family and the Bennett family is beyond saving, we need a new chance. As long as we are related to the Stewart family, we can make a comeback."
Edie listened silently. She gazed out at Film Capital, deserted except for a line of luxury cars parked outside.
"I am your son's wife. Do you want me to cheat on Henry?" Edie said, finding it hilarious that her mother-in-law wanted her to cheat on her son.
"What does it matter? You have the right to get divorced, right? As long as this child is good for us, what does it matter? So what that you're my son's wife! Even if you were my husband's mistress, I wouldn't care," Hannah said generously.
She was fully awake to the reality of her situation. Windsor's coldness stemmed from feeling trapped, and even her own children had abandoned her to the desolate Bennett villa that night. The thought of the old man controlling her life, living in her bedroom while her son remained passive, filled her with despair. A plan hatched at the hospital resurfaced: drug Evander, conceive his child, inherit the Stewart family's fortune, and make a comeback.
"Where are you?" Edie's silence was considered agreement.
