Chapter 68

Odalys's words made everyone in the ward tense. It all sounded like nonsense, but they couldn't help believing it. Everything that had happened lately was so bizarre, they felt they had no other choice.

"What are you talking about, Odalys? How dare you come back after what you did to us? Do you think we've forgotten? If it weren't for you, the Bennett family wouldn't be in this mess!" Hannah's hands clenched into fists, her body trembling with anger as she shouted.

"So, you think I'm behind all this? Fine, if that's what you want to believe. But can't you see I'm perfectly fine? You're the ones who got yourselves into trouble. Guess I'm just luckier than you," Odalys muttered under her breath, sounding annoyed and relieved.

Her words, filled with sarcasm, stabbed everyone like a sharp knife. Odalys seemed to be mumbling, but every word was gloating. It made them gnash their teeth in anger, but they dared not attack her. After all, she was now married into the Stewart family.

"Mrs. Bennett, what's behind you?" Odalys suddenly screamed.

Hannah, frightened, subconsciously took a few steps back and tumbled from the hospital bed. "What is it? Don't come near!" she cried, her voice filled with horror. She tried to move, but her broken leg hindered her escape, leaving her cowering by the bed in fear.

"I think I must have been mistaken," Odalys said.

No matter how naive they might have been, it eventually became clear to everyone that Odalys was manipulating them.

Henry walked toward her angrily. "Odalys, what exactly do you want?" he demanded.

As he finished speaking, a knock sounded at the door. A middle-aged man in a white religious robe entered, looked around briefly, and asked, "Are you the Bennett family?"

"Are you Mr. Oliver Carline?" Henry asked, immediately approaching him.

Oliver flicked a wand in the air, then pointed it toward the center of the room. "All demons and ghosts, get out!"

After a moment, he nodded solemnly. "That's right. I'm Oliver Carline. All of you are stained with bad luck! Just now, downstairs, I could see your bad luck spreading from this ward to the entire hospital."

As Oliver spoke, he looked at Hannah with confusion. "Mrs. Bennett, have you been wearing anything blessed by the holy spirit?"

Hannah remembered the emerald pendant Odalys had given her, snatched back on her wedding day.

"Yes! It's her. She gave me an emerald pendant she said was blessed. I wore it for more than six months. A few days ago, she took it back." A newfound confidence filled Hannah's voice.

"Is there something wrong with the pendant? Did she tamper with it? Did it make me unlucky?" Hannah asked, her eyes filled with a desperate hope that Oliver would confirm her suspicions and allow her to blame Odalys for everything. It was as if she was searching for an excuse to shift all the blame onto Odalys.

"No! It's obvious you've been accumulating bad luck for a long time," Oliver said. He turned and looked at Odalys with a complicated gaze. Her face was pure and exquisite; so beautiful she seemed like a fairy. He looked at her deeply and asked, "Miss, may I see the emerald pendant?"

"Sure," Odalys smiled, looking at Oliver mockingly. She produced the pendant, the cord wrapped around her fingertips.

Oliver examined it, disbelief etched on his face. "Is this pendant yours?"

Odalys put away the pendant, placing her hands behind her back. "Of course," she said softly.

"Then can you sell me the emerald pendant? It looks exquisite," Oliver said, a little too happily, even greedily. He could tell from the light emitted by the pendant that it was blessed by a highly skilled mentor. This kind of pendant was worth over fifty million dollars on the market.

"Master, is there something wrong with the pendant?" Hannah quickly interjected.

Oliver, unhappy at the interruption, turned around and looked at her as if she were a fool. "Mrs. Bennett, do you know where this emerald pendant comes from?"

"What?" Hannah was stunned. Oliver's disdainful look gave her an ominous feeling.

Oliver said angrily, in a low voice, "This emerald pendant is the best of the best. It blocks evil spirits and prevents bad luck. According to you, you wore it for about seven months. The way I see it, you're full of bad luck. If you hadn't worn this pendant, you would have died long ago."

This sentence stunned Hannah. She fell to the ground, disbelief coloring her voice. "This is absolutely impossible! How can this be? It's clearly just an ordinary emerald pendant!"

Then, she shouted at Oliver, "Did you collude with her? Are you trying to trick me into wearing this thing again? Are you trying to kill me?"

Oliver looked at her in disbelief and snorted. "Since you don't believe me, why did you ask me to come? I came here for nothing. I'll leave now. Don't blame me for not reminding you. If it weren't for this pendant, the Bennett family would have been destroyed long ago. You're blind. It serves you right to be where you are today!" With a flick of his wand, he disappeared.

"Mr. Carline!" Hannah cried out in shock. She had heard of Oliver before; many wealthy families had sought his help, and their businesses had subsequently prospered. She regretted offending him.

Recalling Oliver's words, she looked coldly at Odalys. "Since Oliver said your pendant is useful, give it back to me right now! Do you want me to die?" she demanded.

Odalys almost laughed. She had come today anticipating Oliver's arrival; she had come to watch the show and cause trouble. She wanted them to know the pendant's power, but unfortunately, it would remain beyond their reach.
