Chapter 114
She was naturally beautiful, and under the glow of the chandelier, her eyes sparkled as if she were carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Silas looked at her and felt his heart melt instantly.
โIโm not mad,โ he said.
โThen why have you been in such a gloomy mood?โ Calliope wasnโt buying it for a second.
โMen,โ she thought, โeven if theyโre not in love, they sure donโt like their woman being nice to another man.โ Calliope raised her eyes, pondering for a moment, and then suddenly leaned closer to Silas.
Her small hand rested on his chest, and her whole body followed suit. She tilted her head up to look at him, her cheeks flushed pink, and she suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck, giving him a quick, delicate kiss.
Silas was stunned as she came closer. Her petite face was fair and lovely, and when she lifted it, there was something so endearingly attractive about her. She was too adorable for words.
His heart practically melted. Not that he was upset to begin with, but even if he had been, any trace of it vanished.
Calliope kissed him briefly and then tried to pull away. But Silas wasnโt about to let that happen. He gripped her waist, leaning closer to her ear, his voice low and husky, โYou started this.โ
Calliope clung to his neck, looking up at him. Under the chandelierโs light, her eyes glimmered like gemstones, even more captivating and heart-stirring.
Silas couldnโt resist. He scooped her up in his armsโฆ Calliope was in for quite the ride.
Later, she lay nestled against Silas, her stunning eyes blinking at him. The more she looked, the more she thought Silas was handsome. She felt like sheโd struck gold. At least he was way better than Gideon. She must have been blind before. Of course, she never dared to fancy Silas in the past, always treating him with respect.
She never expected Silas to have such boundless energy in bed, like a tireless wolf.
โDid Valerian upset you?โ Silasโs deep voice broke the silence.
โNo,โ Calliope said casually, โI wonโt be sad because of him.โ She had already been through enough. Her heart was long past broken, and she wouldnโt let small things get to her anymore.
Silas gently tightened his hold on her. โIf he ever makes you sad, tell me. Iโll handle him for you. Not just him, anyone.โ
โOkay,โ Calliope murmured, looking up at Silas, a gentle smile playing on her lips, โSilas, will you always be this good to me?โ Aside from her three brothers and grandfather, he was the first to ever say such things to her.
โAlways,โ Silas promised, ruffling her hair with affection.
Calliope smiled. She knew it wouldnโt last forever, though she wished it would.
โWhat is it?โ Silas seemed to sense something.
โNothing,โ Calliope snuggled closer into his arms. โI was just thinking, if, one day, you get tired of this, promise youโll tell me. Just say the word, and Iโll leave.โ
Silas frowned. She didnโt want his child and was always thinking about leaving. His chest felt tight. But he didnโt say anything, just held her closer.
He knew that day would never come, but if it ever did and she truly wanted to leave, he would let her go.
