Chapter 116

โ€œWell, youโ€™re in for a disappointment. Iโ€™m not upset, not even mad. Heck, I want to throw a party with fireworks!โ€

Lisetteโ€™s chest heaved, struggling to maintain her composure. She couldnโ€™t stand Calliope being better off than her. Any sign of Calliopeโ€™s happiness was like a thorn in her side. She had come to rile her up, but it seemed her efforts were in vain.

โ€œYouโ€™re pretending, arenโ€™t you?โ€ Lisette chuckled softly. โ€œThereโ€™s no way you donโ€™t care! You love Gideon. Heโ€™s everything to you. But too bad he doesnโ€™t love you back. Heโ€™s only got eyes for Yvette, and youโ€™re a nuisance to him.โ€

Calliope crossed her arms, eyeing Lisette with a playful smirk. She tilted her head slightly, a glint of mischief in her eyes.

โ€œIs it fun trying to get a rise out of me? If you want to see me going crazy, I can give you a show.โ€

With a sudden narrowing of her eyes, Calliope tossed a handful of powder in Lisetteโ€™s direction.

The powder was colorless and odorless, landing softly on Lisetteโ€™s face. She felt a slight chill but saw nothing. โ€œWhat did you do?โ€

โ€œGave you a little something special.โ€ Calliope grinned as she stood up, no longer paying Lisette any mind.

Inside the diner, a few burly waitstaff were keeping a close watch on Calliopeโ€™s direction, their eyes wary as they looked at Lisette.

But without Calliopeโ€™s signal, none dared approach her. The moment Calliope returned, they rushed to her side. โ€œCallie, was she trying to give you a hard time?โ€ asked Scarface, his voice laced with protective aggression.

โ€œCallie, donโ€™t worry. Weโ€™re here for you! If she tries anything, Iโ€™ll toss her into the deep fryer myself!โ€ added Baldie, his tattooed head gleaming under the lights.

Calliope couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œRelax, guys. She canโ€™t touch me. Besides, sheโ€™s in for some trouble of her own.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€

โ€œReally.โ€ Calliope looked at her crew, who, despite their intimidating appearances, were genuinely good-hearted and loyal.

She had opened this diner to provide them with a place to belong, never expecting it to become so popular. She loved the lively atmosphere, finding comfort in their camaraderie.

โ€œAlright, enough gawking. Weโ€™ve got customers to serve!โ€

With her words, everyone sprang back into action.

Unsure of what Calliope had done to her, Lisette felt uneasy. Without touching her meal, she grabbed her purse and headed out.

โ€œLeaving without even tasting the stew?โ€ Calliope leaned against the doorframe, watching Lisette.

Lisette eyed Calliope warily, โ€œWhat did you do to me earlier?โ€

โ€œPoisoned you.โ€

Lisette frowned, skeptical of Calliopeโ€™s words. โ€œYou think you can scare me?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not trying to scare you. Youโ€™ll act a littleโ€ฆ strange.โ€

Calliopeโ€™s smile widened. She had sprinkled a concoction sheโ€™d been experimenting withโ€”not harmful, but enough to make someone act a bit off, like theyโ€™d consumed magic mushrooms. Each personโ€™s reaction varied, but it was always amusing.

โ€œYouโ€™re the one whoโ€™s strange!โ€ Lisette huffed, turning on her heel and marching away.

Half an hour later, at the Jewel Groupโ€ฆ

โ€œIโ€™m a frog, ribbit! Iโ€™m a frog. Did you know that? Ribbit, ribbit!โ€

โ€œI need bugs. I need big juicy bugs!โ€
