Chapter 205
Calliope stared at the woman in disbelief. She had anticipated that she might have some criticisms but hadnโt expected such outlandish fabrications.
She glanced over at Silas for a moment.
She wasnโt quite sure who this woman was, but she seemed to be someone of importance, probably a well-connected young lady, especially since she was working closely with Silas. Anyone in his inner circle had to have some pull.
Silas strode over to them, his long legs carrying an air of authority. He stopped beside the woman, his presence commanding.
Fagan was already sweating bullets for her.
Silas looked down at her, his voice calm but firm, โKelda, did she bully you? How did she do that?โ
Keldaโs eyes lit up with feigned innocence. โSilas, she tried to spill coffee on me. It was hot, and she wanted to burn me!โ
โDid you get burned?โ Silas asked, his voice low and even.
โNo, because I dodged quickly. But if I hadnโt, I would have been!โ
Kelda puffed up indignantly, โItโs unfair! Since sheโs your wife, and I like you, Silas, Iโd be nice to her. I even brought her fruit and coffee, but she treated me like this! Silas, you know my father would be furious if I got hurt. You said youโd take care of me, didnโt you?โ
โNo burns, huh? Thatโs a shame,โ Silas remarked with a chilly detachment.
โWhat?โ Kelda blinked, stunned, staring at Silas with confusion and disbelief.
Did he just say it was a shame, not that it was good?
Facing Silasโs gaze, Kelda felt a chill run down her spine. She frowned, โSilas, I wasnโt hurt, but this woman ruined your sofa. Youโve always liked that sofa, and itโs expensive. She canโt afford to replace it!โ
โCanโt afford it?โ Silas glanced over at Calliope.
Calliope remained composed, knowing Silas wasnโt a fool who couldnโt tell right from wrong.
โIโve invested everything in her. How could she not afford it? Besides, my things are her things. If she dirties or tears it, sheโs only doing it to her stuff. Is there a problem with that?โ
Silasโs words were casual, but his gaze was enough to shiver anyone.
As Kelda met Silasโs eyes, her heart leaped into her throat. She pursed her lips, looking from the unruffled Calliope to Silas, then finally to Fagan standing nearby.
Fagan wasnโt about to make a peep, but he was frantically gesturing to Kelda. He was trying to signal her to apologize to Calliope and admit her mistake quickly.
Otherwise, even as the darling daughter of the Yoder family, sheโd find herself in deep trouble.
Kelda wasnโt entirely clueless. Seeing Silas and Faganโs reactions, she quickly realized what was happening.
She didnโt know if Silas had feelings for Calliope, but it was clear he was protecting her. Her Silas seemed to have chosen Calliope over her.
