Chapter 224
โWhere do you think youโre going? This isnโt a place you should be wandering into. Do you even know whoโs in that VIP suite on the top floor?โ
Valerian stepped in front of Calliope, blocking her path. โThat room belongs to none other than the only son of Upton, the wealthiest man in Sea City!โ
โAnd?โ Calliope frowned. Couldnโt she check on her godson?
โDo you even realize who you are compared to him? What business do you have here? You think you can just waltz in and talk to Upton? I donโt know why youโre here, but trust me, this isnโt somewhere you should be! Donโt ever upset Upton; we still need some favor from him!โ
Lisette nodded in agreement. โItโs better not to go. We actually need to ask Upton about the Miracle Doctorโs whereabouts. Sheโs the only one who can heal Horatioโs legs.โ
At the mention of the person, Calliopeโs eyes flickered with surprise as she glanced at Horatio.
โLook, I know youโve distanced yourself from our family, but Horatio is still your brother. Iโm begging you, canโt you, for once, not make things worse for him?โ
Lisette was a picture of hypocrisy.
Calliope ignored them; she shot them a disinterested look before walking past Valerian.
โCalliope! What do you think youโre doing?! I told you not to go in there! Why wonโt you just listen?โ
Valerian, exasperated, lunged forward to grab her, but she ignored him, striding toward the hospital suite. โCallie, youโre going to ruin everything for Horatio!โ Lisette accused, pinning the blame on her.
Calliope turned her head slightly. โIf youโre so capable of treating him yourself, why are you still looking for the Miracle Doctor?โ
โโฆโ
โLisette might not be a professional, but she did give me back some mobility over the years. Iโm already grateful for that,โ Horatio interjected, gazing up. โYou donโt need to drive a wedge between us, Callie.โ
โHa, isnโt it because she wasnโt the one who treated you back then?โ Calliope sneered.
Brows furrowed, Horatio looked at Calliope, his eyes imbued with disappointment. โWe know exactly what kind of person Lisette is. She didnโt need to lie if it wasnโt her making the treatment.
I know you donโt like the way we treat Lisette, but this is just petty. The more you act like this, the more you disappoint us.โ
Calliope let out a short, mocking laugh. โYou really donโt know what kind of person she is, do you?โ Without another word, she turned and kept walking.
โCalliope, are you deaf? If you insist on doing this, donโt blame me for getting rough!โ Valerian growled.
He lunged at her abruptly, but as if she had eyes in the back of her head, Calliope easily dodged him, quickening her pace.
โHey! Whatโs all this commotion?โ
At the entrance of the hospital suite, two rows of guards in black suits turned sharply toward them the moment they heard the noise.
Calliope avoided Valerianโs attempts as she strode up to the guards.
โIโm a guest of Upton. Heโs expecting me,โ Calliope said to them.
The guards asked for her name. When she gave it, they stepped aside, allowing her entry. Valerian rushed after her, only to be stopped by the guards, their faces emotionless as they blocked his path.
โWhat are you doing?โ
โI need to see Mr. Thorne!โ Valerian demanded. โWhy did she get to go in? What is she doing in Baberโs ward?โ
โThatโs none of your concern. And Mr. Thorne isnโt someone you can just demand to see.โ
With that, the guards, faces steely, kept Valerian at bay.
