Chapter 257

โ€œWhat? Giving the inheritance to the adopted daughter over the biological one? That mother must be out of her mind!โ€

โ€œYeah, kneeling and begging doesnโ€™t make it right, does it?โ€

The people around had mixed reactions to Calliopeโ€™s words. Some began to see Calliope had a point for not wanting to help.

Calliope gave Zelda and Valerian a knowing wink and smiled slightly, โ€œIn life, you should at least try to be fair. First, you call me a jinx and then favor your adopted daughter over me, and now you ask for my help? Arenโ€™t you ashamed?โ€

With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.

Noticing the crowdโ€™s shifting attitude, Zelda stood up in anger. โ€œCalliope, just wait and see!โ€

Calliope didnโ€™t look back. She got into her car and drove home.

Halfway there, her phone rang. It was Uriah.

โ€œWhere are you?โ€ Uriah Stewartโ€™s voice came through the phone, carrying a hint of seriousness.

โ€œOn my way home,โ€ Calliope replied, puzzled. โ€œIs there something going on, Mr. Stewart?โ€

โ€œNot with me, but your husband seems to have been in a pickle.โ€ Uriahโ€™s voice was steady. โ€œCould you swing by Midnight Romance? Iโ€™m waiting for you here.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Calliope frowned slightly.

She wasnโ€™t sure what was happening, but if Uriah wasnโ€™t explaining over the phone, it must be complicated.

She turned her car around and headed to Midnight Romance.

Midnight Romance was a nightclub owned by Uriah, and business was booming. Calliope and her friend Mavis would occasionally drop by for fun.

Calliope went straight to a private room. Uriah was in the middle of a conversation but nodded at her as she entered.

Calliope sensibly took a seat in the corner and waited. Once Uriahโ€™s companion left, she turned her attention to him.

The room was dim, and Uriah, much like his friend Silas, exuded a powerful presence that was almost palpable.

โ€œMr. Stewart, you mentioned something about my husband. Whatโ€™s wrong?โ€ Calliope got straight to the point. Silas had indeed gone out the previous night. Sheโ€™d received a strange photo but chose to ignore it. โ€œYour husbandโ€™s been detained by a woman.โ€ Uriah sighed, โ€œSeems like you might need to rescue him.โ€

โ€œYara Xander?โ€ Calliope guessed.

โ€œYou know her?โ€ Uriah looked surprised. โ€œYes, itโ€™s Yara. She has a thing for Silas. She lured him over under some pretense, drugged him, and now has him locked up.โ€

โ€œShe wants him to divorce you, saying she wonโ€™t let him go unless you come to get him.โ€

โ€œYou know Yaraโ€™s reputation. Sheโ€™s not someone you want to mess with.โ€

Uriah added, โ€œI think unless you go, Silas might end up in a compromising situation.โ€

Calliope looked at Uriah, bewildered. โ€œSeriously?โ€

Uriah nodded earnestly. โ€œSheโ€™s made it clear. No one else but you can get him out.โ€

Calliope raised an eyebrow. โ€œSilasโ€™s tangled love affairs?โ€

Uriah watched her expression closely. โ€œSo, are you going to rescue him?โ€

Calliope frowned. โ€œWhere is he? With his skills, how could Yara hold him?โ€

She found it hard to believe. Silas was more than capable. How could Yara lock him up so easily? And why did she need to go to rescue him?

She pulled out her phone. โ€œI know where she is,โ€ she said, indicating the address included in the mysterious photo.
