Chapter 389
Calliope hung up the phone after chatting with Silas for a bit. She didnโt mention Gideonโs unannounced visit to the Myers Manor. There was no point in worrying Silas about something he couldnโt do anything about from afar.
As she set the phone down, she noticed some commotion outside. Gideonโs voice was unmistakable, still shouting for her. Damien seemed to be handling the situation, his tone firm.
โMr. Baker,โ Damien called out, โout of respect for your connection to Mr. Myers, Iโll give you a warning. If you leave the manor now, no harm will come to you. But if you keep harassing Mrs. Myers like this, we wonโt be so forgiving.โ
โYou know Mr. Myers is your uncle, and Mrs. Myers is your aunt by marriage,โ Damien continued. โIt was your choice to walk away from the wedding, leaving Mr. Myers to step in. Theyโre happily married now, living a life full of joy. Your actions are inappropriate and only causing trouble for yourself. Remember, Mr. Myers had always been good to you, teaching you a lot. Donโt disappoint him now.โ
Gideon looked at Damien defiantly.
โNo, Iโm not giving up,โ he insisted. โUncle Silas is not a Baker by blood. Yet heโs running the Baker Group. Now, he wants to take Callie too? No, sheโs still mine, and I want her back.โ
With a sigh, Damien adjusted his umbrella against the drizzle. โMr. Baker, you seem to misunderstand. Mrs. Myers isnโt an object you can pass around at whim. Sheโs strong, independent, and capable of making her own choices. Perhaps youโre unaware of how strong she is. But rest assured, sheโs chosen for herself. Itโs not that you didnโt want her; itโs that she didnโt want you. Thatโs something you ought to realize.โ
Gideon frowned, trying to process Damienโs words. Did everyone know how formidable Callie was? Did Silas marry her because of that?
What a joke. Grandfather always insisted Silas wasnโt after the Baker familyโs fortune, but how could that be true? Silas seemed to be after everything, even Callieโs assets.
Gideon sneered, โI knew Uncle Silas was no good.โ
He raised his voice, โCallie, come out! I know youโre listening. Uncle Silas doesnโt love you. He never has. Itโs all a sham!โ
Damien stepped forward, his patience wearing thin. โMr. Baker, youโre disturbing Mrs. Myersโs rest. This is your last chance to leave quietly. We can pretend this never happened, and I wonโt mention it to Mr. Myers.โ
โYou know Mr. Myers is considering you as a future leader of the Baker family. Do you want to ruin that by angering him?โ
Gideon met Damienโs gaze, a bitter laugh escaping him. โFuture leader? He has me stashed away in some branch office, never letting me near the main operations. How could I ever be his successor?โ
