Chapter 390

"Heโ€™s trying to make it sound good, but isnโ€™t it obvious? He just wants to edge out everyone from the Baker family so he can rename the Baker Group to something else, right?โ€

Damien just sighed, remaining silent.

Mr. Myers, well, he never really cared much for the Baker Group. Sure, he was managing it, but honestly, the Baker Group was just some small fry in his eyes.

He only took it on to repay a favor to Eamon. Otherwise, with the kind of successful companies under Mr. Myers' belt, why would he bother with the Baker Group? How else could he have become the richest man in Capitalton?

Damien looked at Gideon, thinking this kid was as naive as they come.

โ€œIf thatโ€™s how you want to see it, youโ€™ll regret it,โ€ Damien said with a resigned sigh. โ€œLast chance, Mr. Baker. Are you leaving, or do we have to do this by the book?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not leaving! If youโ€™ve got the guts, just try and take me down!โ€ Gideon stood his ground stubbornly.

Damien shrugged, giving a nod to the security team around him. The guards advanced on Gideon, and soon enough, he was getting a heavy-handed beating.

Gideon hadnโ€™t expected them to go so hard. In the pouring rain, he ended up looking like heโ€™d just lost a fight with a meat tenderizer.

โ€œMr. Baker, weโ€™ve held back considerably. Now, are you going to leave?โ€ Damien asked politely after the ordeal.

Gideon was on his knees, panting with anger. There was no way he could take on a group, and even one-on-one with Damien, he wouldnโ€™t stand a chance.

As he looked up, he saw Calliope standing quietly on the balcony, watching him. Her eyes were cold, almost regal, and she seemed so distant, like a princess surveying her realm.

Gideon felt like a mere subject, unable to get close to her.

โ€œCallie!โ€ he pleaded. โ€œIโ€™m in pain!โ€

He was trying to gain her sympathy. She used to worry about him over the smallest injuries.

โ€œPainful, is it?โ€ Calliope looked down at him, her voice detached. โ€œIf it is, why force your way in? This isnโ€™t a place you belong.โ€

โ€œCallie, Iโ€™m hurt,โ€ Gideon said, disbelief in his voice.

Rain was pouring down, soaking him to the skin as he knelt there, a pitiful sight. Surely, sheโ€™d feel sorry for him?

But Calliope just stood there, unmoved. โ€œGideon, itโ€™s time for you to leave. Youโ€™re disturbing my sleep.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not leaving! Iโ€™d rather die than leave!โ€ Gideon declared stubbornly.

โ€œDamien, throw him out,โ€ Calliope said, turning her back and heading inside.

Damien and his men forcibly ejected Gideon from the Myers Manor.

Calliope had a restful nightโ€™s sleep. By morning, the rain had stopped, and sunlight streamed in through her window.

As she ate breakfast, Damien came in to give a report. โ€œGideon was outside the manor all night in the rain. He refused to leave, no matter what we did.โ€

โ€œProbably trying to play the sympathy card with you, maโ€™am,โ€ Damien remarked with a sneer. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, we offered him a raincoat and an umbrella. He refused them all.โ€

Damien shook his head, looking unimpressed. โ€œMr. Myers once thought Gideon was worth grooming, that he was one of the few in the Baker family with potential. But now, it seems hardly worth the effort.โ€

โ€œDid he really want Gideon to take over everything from the Baker family?โ€ Calliope asked, sipping her coffee and munching on a croissant, curiosity piqued.
