Chapter 408
Everyone knew about Silas, more or less. His reputation was no secret, but still, no one dared to speak up against him, thanks to his ruthless methods and undeniable power.
So when Gideon shouted out, people were genuinely worried for him.
Some nosy folks had already whipped out their phones, recording the whole scene. Meanwhile, a few journalists were snapping pictures like there was no tomorrow, some even trying to get a word with Gideon.
The more worked up Gideon got, the more the crowd leaned in, eager for the drama to unfold.
โHave you caused enough of a scene?โ
Silas, with Calliope by his side, stood a few steps above, looking down at Gideon with a mix of disdain and amusement. Their elevated position only added to the intensity of the moment.
โIf youโre done making a fool of yourself, you should probably go sleep it off. Weโve got a wedding to get ready for tomorrow.โ
Silas didnโt seem the least bit angry. In fact, his face was almost calm, which was more unsettling than if he had been furious.
Calliope, on the other hand, was fuming. If it werenโt for Silas, the Baker Group would have crumbled ages ago. He had worked tirelessly to revive it, and despite the backlash and criticism, he had never once complained. He even considered grooming Gideon to take over one day.
And this was the thanks he got โ Gideonโs public tantrum. It was embarrassing, a real stain on the Baker name. โGideon, enough,โ Calliope shouted back.
โCalliope, youโre only with him because heโs got power over the Baker Group. Youโre just a gold digger! I loved you, and you still chose him!โ
Calliope groaned internally.
Uriah, who had been lingering nearby, leaned casually against the railing, watching the whole spectacle unfold like it was prime entertainment. โWow, the Baker heir finally grew a spine! Took him long enough, but he needed a few drinks to find it. If youโre so capable, why couldnโt you hold onto your own company or your girl?โ
Calliopeโs lips twitched as she glanced back at Uriah. Silas turned slightly, casting a quick glance at Uriah, who stood with one hand in his pocket, grinning at the crowd.
โYou guys canโt be that gullible, right? Just because Gideon says something doesnโt make it true.โ
The murmur of the crowd quieted down immediately. Everyone knew Uriah and Silas were as thick as thieves, both equally formidable and not to be trifled with. No one wanted to cross them.
People looked at Gideon with a mix of pity and disbelief. Of all times to lose it, he chose now.
โCallie, come back to me, I still love you!โ Gideon pleaded, his voice desperate. โSilas, give her back to me! Give the company back to the Bakers!โ
Gideon lunged at Silas, trying to grab his collar. Silas merely raised an eyebrow, not bothering to evade, letting Gideon clutch at his shirt.
Calliope, witnessing Gideonโs continued meltdown, exhaled sharply. She glanced around, then decisively strode over to a nearby table.
