Chapter 409
The room fell silent, eyes darting between Silas and Calliope. A few curious souls also glanced at Uriah, who stood on the steps looking impossibly dashing.
โWhatโs Calliope up to now?โ someone muttered, watching as she picked up a bottle of whiskey, suspicion clouding their gaze.
The group seated at the table in front of Calliope exchanged bewildered looks as she reached for the bottle.
โThis oneโs empty, right?โ Calliope asked, holding up the bottle. โMind if I borrow it?โ
The people at the table nodded, still trying to process what was happening.
With determination in her stride, Calliope headed towards Gideon.
โGideon!โ she called out, and before anyone could react, she smashed the bottle over Gideonโs head. His grip on Silas loosened as shards of glass scattered everywhere, and blood trickled down his face.
Gideon, stunned by the pain, didnโt even clutch his wound. He stared at Calliope, incredulous.
โSobered up yet? If not, I can give you another go,โ Calliope said coldly, tossing the broken bottle aside.
The crowd quickly stepped back, shock and awe mingling in their expressions. Some even looked at Calliope with newfound respect.
Uriah started clapping. โThatโs Silasโs wife for youโfearless!โ
Silas didnโt need to say a word; a slight smirk played on his lips, clearly proud of his wifeโs boldness.
โYou-โ Gideon stammered, his thoughts scrambled.
โClear-headed now? Good, because I have a few things to say,โ Calliope continued, her tone icy.
โCallie-โ Gideon began, but Calliope cut him off.
โNot โCallie.โ Try โAunt Calliopeโ instead!โ
โMaybe youโre not aware of a few things, but itโs time you got the memo,โ she asserted. โAbout Silas and the Baker familyโdo you know why heโs been overseeing the Baker Group? Itโs not because heโs bored or has any designs on it.โ
โItโs because, apart from Eamon, the rest of you couldnโt manage your way out of a paper bag. Without Silas, the Baker Group would have crumbled. Ungrateful isnโt even the half of it. When the Baker Group faced bankruptcy, it was Silasโs mother who saved it with a hefty sum.โ
โDo you even know how the Baker Group became what it is today? Maybe you donโt, but you should ask your parents. Silas built it up!โ
โAnd now, you think you can just waltz in and claim it all? Tell me, what have you actually done for the Baker Group? Anyone with a bit of age on them here knows the truth about this.โ
โAnd let me be clear, Silas has zero interest in the Baker Group. Heโs been wanting to step down, but Eamon wouldnโt let him. He hoped to train you because, compared to the rest of the family, youโre the least incompetent!โ
