Calliope’s words hit like a lightning bolt, leaving everyone around in stunned realization. The crowd murmured in admiration, marveling at Calliope’s boldness.

Gideon was jolted awake, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he struggled to respond, his face flushed with embarrassment. He couldn’t find a single word to counter her because deep down, he knew Calliope was right. He’d always assumed that since the company was called Baker Group, it was his by birthright. And as for being groomed as an heir… well, now that he thought about it, Silas had indeed been preparing him.

“Oh, and you said I was just in it for the money, right? You accused Silas of stealing me away, didn’t you?”

Calliope chuckled, looking directly at Gideon. “Silas and I got together naturally. Sure, it was a marriage of convenience at first, but I love him. He didn’t steal me away!”

“Gideon, you ran off on our wedding day! You ditched me for Yvette, and while you had the right to change your mind, running away was not the way to do it!”

“The wedding was imminent, and I needed someone to step in, so I asked Silas to be my groom. If you could find another woman on our wedding day, why couldn’t I find another man? Silas was my choice, I brought him into my life!”

“Had to be done.” Calliope smirked, raising an eyebrow before turning her gaze back to Gideon. “Gideon, are you awake now? Did you get the message, or should I spell it out again?”

Gideon stood there, pale as a ghost, unable to muster a single retort.

“Silas, let’s go. I’m tired.” Calliope turned, slipping back into her role as the doting wife.

Silas, eyes full of adoration, stepped forward, taking her hand. He shot a final glance at Gideon before leading Calliope away.
