Chapter 411
Gideon found himself in the hospital, courtesy of a few stitches in his head thanks to his friendsโ timely intervention. They gathered around him, some patting his shoulder, others offering words of comfort.
โHey, buddy, maybe be a little more cautious next time, yeah?โ
โThat was Silas, after all, and Calliope had a point. The Baker Group wouldnโt be where it is today without Silasโs help!โ
โSilas sure has some skills. If it werenโt for him, the Baker family wouldnโt have such a strong footing in Capitalton.โ
โEven though heโs running the company, the Baker Group is thriving. Maybe itโs best to let this one go.โ
โYeah, Gideon, donโt dwell on Calliope. Did you see how hard she went on you? Who knew Calliope was such a force to reckon with!โ
โShe seems pretty protective of Silas. Looks like sheโs really fallen for him!โ
Listening to his friendsโ advice only made Gideonโs head throb more. He was frustrated. โHow could she fall for him so quickly?โ
โLoveโs unpredictable like that. Either way, youโre getting married tomorrow. Go home and get some rest. Make sure the wedding goes smoothly!โ
โYeah, and you should find some time to apologize to Silas.โ
โSilas is quite capable, and heโs the one calling the shots in the Baker family. Your future might just depend on him!โ
โTry to clear the air, maybe even aim for the heirโs spot!โ
Gideon chuckled lightly. He wasnโt sure if Silas ever really considered him a contender for the heirโs position. But he doubted that just explaining himself would win back that spot. Silas probably held a grudge now. Yet, he really wanted to win Calliope back.
โGideon, get some rest tonight. Make sure the wedding goes well tomorrow!โ
โItโs late. Just chalk it up to a night of drinking. Sleep it off, and forget about today!โ
โWhere are you heading tonight? Let me give you a ride.โ
After a brief discussion, his friends drove Gideon back to his place.
Meanwhile, Calliope and Silas returned home.
Silas watched Calliope the whole ride back, his gaze so intense that it made her uneasy.
โWhy are you staring at me?โ Calliope finally asked when they got home.
โWhyโd you hit Gideon so hard? His weddingโs tomorrow.โ Silasโs eyes were still locked on her, his lips curled into a slight, amused smile.
โHe badmouthed you. Of course, I had to put him in his place,โ Calliope replied matter-of-factly. โYouโve done much for the Baker family, and he acts like he canโt see that, accusing you of trying to take over the family fortune.โ
She hadnโt known about all this until Eamon told her. It turned out Silas had never spent a dime of the Baker familyโs money.
Even though Eamon had raised him, Silas had always been sharp, dabbling in stocks from a young age. He made his own money, earned his keep. Eamon had merely been a guiding hand, protecting him when necessary, but never financially supporting him.
Eamon believed it was the Baker family that owed Silas. He wanted to hand everything over to Silas, but Silas had never asked for it. He remained grateful, treating Eamon like a father. He respected Eamon deeply and constantly worked to assist him.
