Chapter 425

Yvetteโ€™s voice boomed through the hallway, loud enough that anyone passing by would surely hear it.

Of course, Yvette had planned for that. She wanted witnesses to see what she claimed Calliope had done โ€“ pushed her down the stairs, causing her to miscarry.

In a calculated move, Yvette positioned herself just right and dramatically tumbled down the stairs.

Calliope stood there, calm and composed, watching Yvette scream as she fell.

Yvette had it all figured out. She made sure to hit her stomach just right, avoiding any serious harm to herself. Plus, she had taken some pills earlier to induce a miscarriage, so as soon as she hit the bottom, blood started to flow.

โ€œOh, my baby!โ€ she wailed. โ€œSomebody help, save my baby!โ€

Her cries were full of anguish, echoing through the mansion.

Calliope listened to her theatrics with a smirk, her lips twitching slightly. โ€œYouโ€™ve got quite the flair for drama, Yvette. You shouldโ€™ve been an actress.โ€

Yvette glanced at Calliope, searching for any sign of shock or fear, but found none. Calliopeโ€™s face was unreadably calm, almost unnaturally so.

This unsettling composure made Yvette anxious. Why was Calliope so unfazed? Why wasnโ€™t she shocked or scared? Anyone else would be in a panic after witnessing someone fall down the stairs.

Despite her doubts, Yvette pressed on with her act. She had arranged for her family to arrive soon, and the guests would be summoned as well. Especially Fleur and the others โ€“ they might not care about her, but they sure cared about the baby she carried.

This child was the Baker familyโ€™s future, and Fleur was thrilled about its arrival. Even Gideon, Yvette knew he cared about the baby. It was the reason he was still willing to marry her. He never once said he didnโ€™t want the child.

Just as Yvette had planned, people soon came rushing into the stairwell. The Jansen family were the first on the scene. They might not have extorted a hefty sum, but Yvette had convinced them to play along, promising future riches if they cooperated.

โ€œYvette!โ€ they cried. โ€œOh my God, what happened to her? How did she fall down the stairs?โ€

โ€œArenโ€™t you Yvetteโ€™s aunt? Did you push her down the stairs? This is outrageous! How could you do this to a pregnant woman?โ€

The Jansen family began accusing Calliope, their voices rising in a chorus of outrage. The commotion drew even more guests, including Gideon and a group of others who rushed over.

Fleur had just returned from the restroom when she heard the tumult. Her heart sank as she saw Yvette on the floor, blood pooling around her. It was obvious what had happened.

โ€œMy grandchild!โ€ Fleur exclaimed, her face a mask of distress. โ€œWhat happened here?โ€

She turned to Calliope, demanding answers, โ€œDid you do this? Did you harm my grandchild?โ€

Calliope met Fleurโ€™s gaze calmly. โ€œIt wasnโ€™t me. She threw herself down the stairs.โ€

โ€œAunt Calliope, I know you still have feelings for Gideon, but you canโ€™t do this to me!โ€ Yvette cried, her voice full of accusation. โ€œYou pushed me! Why would I throw myself down the stairs? I wouldnโ€™t risk my life, let alone my childโ€™s! Does that even make sense?โ€
