Chapter 426
Yvette was sobbing uncontrollably as she clung to Fleur.
โMom, Iโm so sorry,โ she wailed. โI couldnโt protect your grandchild! I never wanted this to happen. I didnโt know Aunt Calliope would do something so awful out of jealousy! My baby, my baby is gone!โ
Fleur shot a furious glance at Calliope. Her hand was poised in the air, ready to slap Calliope, when suddenly a tall figure stepped in.
Silas caught Fleurโs wrist mid-air, giving her a cold, hard stare.
โYou should go check out the ballroom,โ he said.
โWhat for?โ Fleur exclaimed in disbelief. โYour precious wife killed my grandchild! She caused the miscarriage! She pushed her down the stairs!โ
Fleur was livid, the sight of Yvetteโs blood still fresh and glaring in her mind.
Yvetteโs relatives had started wailing, each one demanding to know why Calliope would be so cruel, why she would do this to Yvette. Yvette had only just married Gideon, the wedding celebration incomplete, and now this tragedy had struck.
Silas remained silent.
Gideon appeared then, his face grim as he looked at Yvette.
โGideon, Iโm sorry, I couldnโt save our child! Donโt blame Aunt Calliope, itโs my fault, I slipped!โ
โItโs all my fault, all my fault!โ Yvette sobbed.
The guests around them remained silent, their expressions unreadable as they watched Yvette. Yvette found it strange that no one whispered a word, no murmurs of sympathy reached her ears. Her heart filled with confusion.
Gideon slowly made his way to Yvette. He finally stood in front of her, his eyes boring into hers.
โWhat are you saying? Who pushed you? How did you fall down the stairs?โ Gideon pressed.
โI was carelessโฆ It had nothing to do with Aunt Calliope, donโt go against her!โ Yvette murmured, looking down. โIs that right? You know it was your carelessness?โ Gideonโs eyes were as cold as steel. โYou couldnโt even look after your own child?โ
Yvette was taken aback, her plan backfiring before her eyes, panic setting in.
โGideonโฆ I didnโt want you to upset Uncle Silas. Even though Calliope pushed me, letโs just leave it be! Aunt Calliope will retaliate against us!โ
Smack!
Gideonโs slap landed on her face.
Yvette gasped, clutching her stinging cheek, staring at Gideon in shock.
โGideon, whatโs wrong with you? Why are you doing this to me?โ
It was beyond belief. She was the one who had miscarried!
โDonโt you know?โ
โWhy would Aunt Calliope push you? You jumped yourself, donโt you know how you lost the baby? Your baby had problems, and instead of dealing with it, you pretended it was a healthy pregnancy to fool us? Yvette, do you think our whole family is stupid, that you could just play us all like fools?โ
Gideon sneered, his voice dripping with disdain.
The guests began to murmur, pointing fingers at Yvette in disbelief and judgment.
Yvette finally realized something was terribly wrong! She was supposed to be the victim, so why wasnโt anyone sympathizing with her? Why was there no one stepping forward to help her?
