Chapter 427
โGideon, as much as I dislike Yvette, itโs entirely this womanโs fault that she lost the baby!โ Fleur fumed, pointing an accusatory finger at Calliope.
โCalliope, how are you going to make up for the loss of my grandson?โ she demanded. โYou caused the miscarriage. How could you be so heartless? Are you still holding a grudge against me for not treating you well in the past?โ
โIf she were holding a grudge, you wouldโve been out of the Baker family a long time ago,โ Silas retorted coldly, defending Calliope. โMy wife has put so much effort into organizing this wedding. Even if she were mad, she wouldnโt do something like this. You should ask your precious daughter-in-law what sheโs done!โ
A member of the Jansen family interjected, arms crossed defiantly, โThis is practically murder! Our Yvette was pushed by her! Yvette was about to get married; why would she harm herself like that? She loved that baby.โ
The Jansen family members were visibly furious, glaring at Calliope with hostility. โNow that the babyโs gone, youโll have to pay up! How much do you think a life is worth?โ
Calliope chuckled softly at their theatrics. Rather than rushing Yvette to the hospital, they seemed more interested in milking the situation for money.
โLetโs head to the banquet hall,โ Calliope suggested to the crowd, โand bring the bride along.โ
With that, she and Silas turned and cut through the throng, making their way to the banquet hall. As Calliope turned, Yvette felt a pang of unease. Calliope was smiling, which seemed oddly out of place given the circumstances.
The Jansen family helped Yvette to her feet, clearly more interested in their scheme than her well-being, and followed Calliopeโs lead toward the hall.
Gideonโs face was a storm of emotions. He shot Yvette a look of pure disdain. Where he once felt protective of her, now he felt only disgust.
Fleur, walking beside Gideon, lamented the loss of the unborn child. โDoes Calliope still have feelings for you? Is that why sheโs so ruthless?โ
โMom, itโs not her fault,โ Gideon replied, his voice icy. โYouโll see what I mean in the banquet hall.โ
โWhat do you mean?โ Fleur asked, suspicion tinging her voice, though she quickened her pace.
The guests, buzzing with curiosity, followed them back to the banquet hall. Inside, some who hadnโt ventured out were still gathered, engrossed in conversation about the drama unfolding on the big screen.
Calliope and Silas returned to their seats. Calliope turned to Eamon, the family patriarch. โIโm sorry.โ
โThis isnโt your fault,โ Eamon reassured her, having remained at the table throughout the chaos, flanked by Dahlia and Calista.
โExactly, Callie, we all saw what happened!โ Verity chimed in, shaking her head in disbelief. โYvette seemed so meek, but to pull a stunt like this at her own wedding and try to frame you? Unbelievable!โ
Calista added, โOur cousin really canโt judge character.โ
Dahlia nodded in agreement, โHe missed out on Callie and ended up with such a mess.โ
A collective sigh rippled through the group.
Verity glanced at Eamon, โThis weddingโs ruined, and itโs making us a laughingstock. We donโt need to be nice to Yvette anymore!โ
