Chapter 429
Fleur felt her face burning with embarrassment, acutely aware of the many eyes fixed upon her. She knew people were surely mocking her. Calliope was not the daughter-in-law she wanted; she had ended up with a fool instead.
Not only foolish but also malicious!
She wouldnโt have minded Yvette doing something to Calliope, but not so publicly, not exposing herself like this!
It was just too stupid. Even if something needed to be done, this wasnโt it. Her actions were akin to running naked down Main Street.
โSmack!โ
A sharp slap landed across Yvetteโs cheek.
Fleur glared at her furiously, โIโve seen stupidity, but none quite like yours! Youโre dumber than a sack of rocks!โ
Her chest heaved with anger, โThe baby youโre carrying is not even viable, yet you dared to claim youโre having our grandchild?โ
โIโm sorry!โ Yvette was now genuinely scared. The wedding had progressed to this point. She was terrified the Baker family would reject her.
She shot a hateful glance in Calliopeโs direction, never expecting Calliope to be so underhanded, managing to capture everything on camera.
โMom, Iโm sorry, I didnโt mean to! I was just afraid that the baby wouldnโt make it, and I didnโt want to disappoint you!โ
โI didnโt know what to do, I know youโre not fond of me, so I was terrified of losing you and Gideon, I resorted to deception!โ
Yvette fell to her knees, pleading with Fleur through her tears.
โMom, please, donโt blame me, Iโll try to conceive Gideonโs child as soon as possible! Believe me, Iโll be pregnant again in no time!โ
Fleur stepped back, her face turning all shades of red and white. She had never been so humiliated.
Glancing at the crowd, she wanted nothing more than to disassociate herself from Yvette; it was mortifying, she was on the verge of going mad.
Fleur looked around, grabbed her purse, and stormed out. Her husband quickly followed.
Yvette turned, kneeling before Gideon now.
โGideon, I didnโt mean it, I was just so afraid of losing you!โ
Her eyes were red as she spoke, โIโm sorry, I know I was wrong, I apologize!โ
โI promise I wonโt do it again, I swear! Please, the weddingโs already gone this far, donโt leave me, okay?โ
Yvette was crying heavily.
Gideonโs expression was stony.
โThe person you owe an apology to isnโt me. Youโve put on quite a show at this wedding. Do you really enjoy being the center of ridicule?โ
Gideon was seething. He never imagined the wedding could turn into such a disaster. He was utterly humiliated.
โAre you planning to stay here like this? Shouldnโt you be dealing with this mess?โ Gideon didnโt want to say another word to Yvette. He was reluctant about the whole affair to begin with, and now he was even less inclined.
Yet, the wedding had reached this point, and there was no turning back. He knew Eamon would never agree, and Uncle Silas would be even less forgiving.
He had intended to make a good impression today for the sake of his position, but now it was all ruined. Yvette had single-handedly obliterated everything.
Gideon didnโt want to say more; he walked over towards Calliope and the others.
