Chapter 430
โUncle Silas, what do we do next?โ Gideon couldnโt bring himself to say he didnโt want to go through with the wedding anymore, so he just let Silas take the lead.
Silas glanced over at Calliope, clearly seeking her opinion.
โTake her to the hospital,โ Calliope suggested calmly. โThe wedding has wrapped up, and the guests are starting to leave. Letโs call it a day.โ
With that, Calliope stood up, ready to address the crowd.
โIโll go have a word,โ she said, making her way to the stage.
Gideon watched her, his gaze intense. Even framed in such a situation, Calliope maintained her composure. She had been steps ahead all along, and he had never realized just how clever she was. He truly had been in the dark.
Calliope took her place on the stage, and the room fell silent as all eyes turned to her.
โApologies for the unexpected drama today,โ she began. โOn behalf of the Baker family, Iโd like to clarify a few things.โ
The guests remained quiet, their attention fixed on Calliope.
Meanwhile, Gideon approached Yvette, who was sitting off to the side. He didnโt offer her a hand up, leaving her to stand on her own.
โGideonโฆ do you still want me?โ Yvette asked, her voice trembling with uncertainty. โWhat did Grandpa say?โ
Yvette glanced nervously at Calliope on stage, her anxiety growing.
โIf you donโt want to end up in worse shape, you should head to the hospital,โ Gideon replied coldly. โOr do you want to collapse right here?โ
Yvette fell silent, understanding the gravity of his words. She followed Gideon as they left the ballroom, aware of the many eyes on them.
Back on stage, Calliope was explaining Yvetteโs actions, attributing them to jealousy. She recounted how she had seen Yvette at the hospital and noticed her pregnancy complications. Although she hadnโt expected Yvette to go to such lengths, she had prepared a little precaution: a tiny camera embedded in her necklace.
Calliope had even tried to warn Yvette when she was about to make her move, but Yvette hadnโt listened, leading to this unfortunate situation.
With a composed demeanor, Calliope spoke at length, making sure to distance Yvetteโs behavior from the Baker family.
โDespite Ms. Jansenโs actions, she is still the woman my nephew cares for, his chosen partner, and thus I wonโt hold this against her.โ
โTonight was certainly startling for everyone, so weโd like to present each of you with a gift,โ she continued. โThe food on the tables might have gone cold, and Iโll ensure the hotel prepares fresh dishes. You came here in good spirits, and we want you to leave just as happy and well-fed.โ
Calliopeโs words were poised and graceful, and her presence commanding.
The audience listened quietly, captivated by her speech.
โShe truly is Silasโs match, handling things so adeptly,โ someone whispered in the crowd.
โGideon really isnโt on her level at all.โ
โBet heโs regretting everything now. I heard Silas was considering passing the Baker Group to Gideon, grooming him for leadership. After this fiasco, I bet heโs reconsidering.โ
โTalk about digging your own grave,โ another murmured, shaking their head.
