The wedding reception finally wrapped up smoothly, all thanks to Calliope’s impeccable planning. She, along with Silas and Eamon, made sure every guest was personally seen off.
Despite some whispers about Yvette’s outrageous behavior, everyone was singing praises for Calliope’s knack for handling things. Not only did the guests leave with delightful party favors, but they also thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. As they departed, many took a moment to chat with Calliope, clearly interested in getting to know her better.
Calliope, maintaining her composure, exchanged a few words with each guest, leaving them with a lasting and favorable impression. Her reputation as the legendary “Miracle Doctor” only amplified their curiosity.
As the night deepened, the guests finally dispersed. The members of the Baker family, who had stayed behind to mingle, were utterly exhausted. Once everyone had left, they sank into chairs, rubbing shoulders and stretching their weary limbs.
“Finally, it’s over. Fleur and her family are something else, all storming away like that without a second thought. It was their celebration, yet they left us to handle everything,” Verity grumbled.
“Thank goodness for you, Callie,” Verity continued, her voice tinged with admiration. “You defused the whole situation with such grace. Without you, who knows what kind of rumors would be flying about our family.”
Calliope gave Verity a warm smile. “You did great too, Verity. Now that it’s over, let’s all get some rest.”
“Exhausted doesn’t even cover it,” Verity sighed dramatically. “I’m so beat. I’m heading out. Callie, you and the others should get some sleep too. Dad, I’m off!”
Eamon nodded. “Alright, everyone, let’s call it a night.”
Slowly, the gathering dispersed, leaving only Eamon, Silas, and Calliope behind.
“Callie, thank you for what you’ve done,” Eamon said, concern etched on his face as he gazed at Calliope. “Gideon’s choice in a wife is questionable. She even tried to frame you. I’m relieved you were prepared.”
“Once I realized she was pregnant and knew her health wasn’t great, I suspected she had ulterior motives,” Calliope explained to Eamon. “I hope you don’t mind how I handled things.”
She could have dealt with the situation quietly, but she felt Yvette needed a lesson. It was important for everyone to see Yvette’s true colors, and she knew that keeping things under wraps would only encourage Yvette to try something else later. Hence, she chose to live-stream it.
“Why would I mind? You did the right thing. She should be responsible for her own actions,” Eamon reassured her, his expression stern. “Let’s hope she learns her lesson and stops harming herself and others in the process.”
Calliope nodded. “Yes. After this, she should think twice. Fleur will likely keep her in check too.”
After a bit more conversation, Silas and Calliope escorted Eamon back to the old estate. Once he was settled, they made their way to their own place.
“You anticipated Yvette’s plan?” Silas asked gently.
“Yeah, had a hunch, so I made some arrangements. I tried to steer her away, but she was stubborn. She has health issues, and with what she’s done, future pregnancies might be impossible,” Calliope said matter-of-factly.
Yvette had indeed dug her own grave. Had she been more cautious, focusing on recovery from the abortion rather than pulling a stunt like this, her prospects might have been better. But with the bad fall and her taking those pills, she had likely jeopardized any chance of bearing children in the future.
