Chapter 464

Calliope looked at Fleur, letting out a soft chuckle. โ€œI doubt you can afford my fee.โ€

Fleur froze, staring at Calliope as if she couldnโ€™t believe her ears.

โ€œThe Miracle Doctorโ€™s fees arenโ€™t exactly a secret,โ€ Calliope continued. โ€œYou can ask around if you like. Besides, I donโ€™t really enjoy getting involved in complicated situations.โ€

Even if she managed to help Yvette conceive, there was still a chance of miscarriage. And even if the pregnancy went full term, the babyโ€™s health wasnโ€™t guaranteed. If she agreed to help and something went wrong, Fleur and Yvette would surely find a way to blame her.

Calliope had no interest in thankless tasks.

โ€œYou could always consult other renowned doctors,โ€ she said, standing up to leave.

But Fleur grabbed her sleeve immediately. โ€œCallie, please. I know I havenโ€™t treated you well in the past, and you have every right to be upset. But Iโ€™ve changed, and I truly regret it.

If Yvette canโ€™t have a baby, how am I supposed to have a grandchild? Iโ€™ll pay you whatever you want! Just please, help us! Iโ€™ve already asked other doctors. Youโ€™re the Miracle Doctor; youโ€™re the best there is! If nobody else can do it, I know you can.โ€

Fleur looked at Calliope earnestly, her face aged even more than Calliope remembered. Yvette and Gideon had only been married a short while, yet Fleur looked as if sheโ€™d been worn down over the years.

It seemed karma had finally come around for her. Calliope remembered Fleurโ€™s past arrogance, but now she seemed genuinely remorseful.

Calliope said nothing, while Fleur gritted her teeth and produced a card. โ€œThereโ€™s a hundred thousand here. Not a small amount, right?โ€

She slid the card toward Calliope. โ€œHere you are. After she conceives, Iโ€™ll give you one hundred thousand more. If the baby is born healthy, Iโ€™ll add the same amount.โ€

Fleur was resolute, her gaze never leaving Calliope.

โ€œCallie, weโ€™re family, after all. I know your services are probably worth more, but please, help me this once.โ€

Calliope studied Fleur. โ€œI canโ€™t guarantee sheโ€™ll fully recover. Even if she does, pregnancy might still be difficult; there could be miscarriage. Moreover, even if she successfully conceives, and the pregnancy is stable, thereโ€™d be issues at prenatal checkups. I canโ€™t promise anything. She might be able to get pregnant again, but it could end up being all for nothing.โ€ Calliope made sure to lay out everything clearly. But Fleur wouldnโ€™t hear of it. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter, as long as she conceives. The rest is in fateโ€™s hands. The doctors have said she has trouble even getting pregnant. If she can just conceive, Iโ€™ll figure out how to keep the baby! You just need to make her body work properly. Youโ€™re the Miracle Doctor; this should be childโ€™s play for you, right?โ€

Calliope gave Fleur a long look. โ€œAre you sure about this?โ€

โ€œAbsolutely,โ€ Fleur replied.

โ€œIf something goes wrong, you wonโ€™t come back blaming me?โ€ Calliope asked again.

โ€œNo matter what happens, I wonโ€™t hold you responsible!โ€ Fleur assured her. โ€œIf anything goes wrong, itโ€™ll be that foolโ€™s fault!โ€

Calliope sighed. โ€œI can help her get her health back on track, but she must be careful herself. During her recovery, she really needs to take care of herself.โ€
