Chapter 475
The man reached us and gave me a polite nod. โSorry, my daughterโs bothering you.โ
โTataโs not a bother. Tataโs cute,โ Tessa shot back, puffing up her cheeks like she was about to start a protest.
I laughed, completely charmed. โTessaโs very cute. I like her a lot.โ
โTata likes her too,โ she added, still a little garbled but proud.
I patted her head gently, then turned to her dad. โI thought her parents were, like, both foreign?โ
His expression darkened for a split secondโso fast, I almost missed it. Realizing Iโd probably overstepped, I quickly apologized. โIโm sorryโฆโ
He just nodded, then held out his hand to Tessa. โCome on, sweetheart, we have to board the plane.โ
โBut she should come with us!โ Tessa pleaded, clutching my hand like we were already best friends.
I was about to explain that we werenโt on the same flight when Wayne showed up, holding our boarding passes. He glanced around, taking in the scene, and extended a hand to Tessaโs dad. โHey there.โ
The dad shook his hand, smiling politely, while Tessa, totally uninterested in the adult stuff, tugged on my hand again. โLetโs go!โ
โTessa,โ her dad said softly, โthis miss isnโt on the same flight as us.โ
โShe can change it!โ Tessa insisted, like she was some kind of expert on flight rebooking. I couldnโt help but smileโthis kid was already a pro traveler.
With her golden curls and fair skin, she looked like a little doll, but her deep, dark eyes hinted at her mixed heritage.
โTessa, donโt be naughty,โ her dad said gently, though you could tell he wasnโt really mad. She just gave him a look and turned her hopeful eyes back to me.
โMiss, Tata wants to sit on the plane with you,โ Tessa said, her big eyes full of hope. How was I supposed to say no to that?
I glanced at her dad, who gave me an apologetic smile. โSorry, sheโs a bit headstrong.โ
He picked Tessa up, giving me a quick nod before turning to leave. As they walked away, Tessa craned her neck to keep looking at me, her little voice carrying over, โTataโฆ will miss youโฆโ
I waved, smiling. โIโll miss you too,โ I thought. I kept watching them until they disappeared into the crowd.
People always say every encounter is a blessing, and for some reason, meeting Tessa felt like something moreโa weird, unexpected connection.
Chapter 475
โYou like kids, donโt you?โ Wayneโs voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
โNot really,โ I said, sitting back down.
โYou were all smiles talking to that little girl,โ he pointed out, catching me off guard.
He was right. Talking to Tessa had made me forget about everything else, even if just for a moment.
I shrugged, not answering. Wayne sat beside me. โSo, when you get married, would you want a son or a daughter?โ
I hadnโt really thought about it, but Tessaโs adorable face popped into my mind. โI think Iโd want a kid like her.โ
Then it hit me. โPreferably mixed, too.โ
Wayne paused, then chuckled. โSo, youโre gonna marry a foreigner, huh?โ
I playfully pouted. โIf things with Hayden donโt work out, maybe Iโll just stay single. Or, yeah, maybe Iโll find myself a foreign husband.โ
Wayne went quiet for a beat. Once I started, though, I couldnโt seem to stop. โTall, handsome. Our kids would be gorgeous.โ
โRea,โ Wayne interrupted, his tone serious now, โare you just saying this to be spiteful?โ
I looked at him, still smiling. โNope. Iโm dead serious.โ
His normally chill expression tightened as he pressed his lips together. Then he said quietly, โIf you can make things work with someone from your own culture, it wonโt be any easier with a foreign guy.โ
Was he trying to discourage me?
But the more he pushed, the more stubborn I got. โYou never know until you try, right?โ
