Chapter 475

The man reached us and gave me a polite nod. โ€œSorry, my daughterโ€™s bothering you.โ€

โ€œTataโ€™s not a bother. Tataโ€™s cute,โ€ Tessa shot back, puffing up her cheeks like she was about to start a protest.

I laughed, completely charmed. โ€œTessaโ€™s very cute. I like her a lot.โ€

โ€œTata likes her too,โ€ she added, still a little garbled but proud.

I patted her head gently, then turned to her dad. โ€œI thought her parents were, like, both foreign?โ€

His expression darkened for a split secondโ€”so fast, I almost missed it. Realizing Iโ€™d probably overstepped, I quickly apologized. โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ฆโ€

He just nodded, then held out his hand to Tessa. โ€œCome on, sweetheart, we have to board the plane.โ€

โ€œBut she should come with us!โ€ Tessa pleaded, clutching my hand like we were already best friends.

I was about to explain that we werenโ€™t on the same flight when Wayne showed up, holding our boarding passes. He glanced around, taking in the scene, and extended a hand to Tessaโ€™s dad. โ€œHey there.โ€

The dad shook his hand, smiling politely, while Tessa, totally uninterested in the adult stuff, tugged on my hand again. โ€œLetโ€™s go!โ€

โ€œTessa,โ€ her dad said softly, โ€œthis miss isnโ€™t on the same flight as us.โ€

โ€œShe can change it!โ€ Tessa insisted, like she was some kind of expert on flight rebooking. I couldnโ€™t help but smileโ€”this kid was already a pro traveler.

With her golden curls and fair skin, she looked like a little doll, but her deep, dark eyes hinted at her mixed heritage.

โ€œTessa, donโ€™t be naughty,โ€ her dad said gently, though you could tell he wasnโ€™t really mad. She just gave him a look and turned her hopeful eyes back to me.

โ€œMiss, Tata wants to sit on the plane with you,โ€ Tessa said, her big eyes full of hope. How was I supposed to say no to that?

I glanced at her dad, who gave me an apologetic smile. โ€œSorry, sheโ€™s a bit headstrong.โ€

He picked Tessa up, giving me a quick nod before turning to leave. As they walked away, Tessa craned her neck to keep looking at me, her little voice carrying over, โ€œTataโ€ฆ will miss youโ€ฆโ€

I waved, smiling. โ€˜Iโ€™ll miss you too,โ€™ I thought. I kept watching them until they disappeared into the crowd.

People always say every encounter is a blessing, and for some reason, meeting Tessa felt like something moreโ€”a weird, unexpected connection.

Chapter 475

โ€œYou like kids, donโ€™t you?โ€ Wayneโ€™s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

โ€œNot really,โ€ I said, sitting back down.

โ€œYou were all smiles talking to that little girl,โ€ he pointed out, catching me off guard.

He was right. Talking to Tessa had made me forget about everything else, even if just for a moment.

I shrugged, not answering. Wayne sat beside me. โ€œSo, when you get married, would you want a son or a daughter?โ€

I hadnโ€™t really thought about it, but Tessaโ€™s adorable face popped into my mind. โ€œI think Iโ€™d want a kid like her.โ€

Then it hit me. โ€œPreferably mixed, too.โ€

Wayne paused, then chuckled. โ€œSo, youโ€™re gonna marry a foreigner, huh?โ€

I playfully pouted. โ€œIf things with Hayden donโ€™t work out, maybe Iโ€™ll just stay single. Or, yeah, maybe Iโ€™ll find myself a foreign husband.โ€

Wayne went quiet for a beat. Once I started, though, I couldnโ€™t seem to stop. โ€œTall, handsome. Our kids would be gorgeous.โ€

โ€œRea,โ€ Wayne interrupted, his tone serious now, โ€œare you just saying this to be spiteful?โ€

I looked at him, still smiling. โ€œNope. Iโ€™m dead serious.โ€

His normally chill expression tightened as he pressed his lips together. Then he said quietly, โ€œIf you can make things work with someone from your own culture, it wonโ€™t be any easier with a foreign guy.โ€

Was he trying to discourage me?

But the more he pushed, the more stubborn I got. โ€œYou never know until you try, right?โ€
