Chapter 744

โ€˜Double standards much?โ€™ Lena thought, scoffing inwardly. A minute ago, he swore up and down he didnโ€™t have a girlfriend. Now he was pulling one out of thin air just to shut someone down? Wouldnโ€™t a simple โ€œno thanksโ€ have worked?

โ€œIf youโ€”โ€

โ€˜Oh, come on.โ€™ Lena mentally rolled her eyes. Why was she being dragged into this mess?

The girl, of course, turned to Lena, waiting for confirmation with wide, hopeful eyes.

Lena glared at Aaron, ready to set the record straight, but before she could, he swooped in again.

โ€œDonโ€™t believe me, ask her,โ€ Aaron added, shifting the pressure right onto Lena.

โ€œShe was just asking me earlier about taking my girlfriend to the OB-GYN,โ€ he said smoothly, his words landing like a grenade.

Lena froze, utterly speechless.

The girlโ€™s face shifted through shock, realization, and total embarrassment before she bolted out of the eatery.

โ€œYouโ€™ve been turning down a lot of admirers lately. Pretty smooth moves,โ€ Lena teased.

Aaron didnโ€™t bite. โ€œYour tacos are here,โ€ he said, nodding as the server set the plates down.

Lena let it go, diving into her meal. The spicy taco hit hard, making her nose sweat, but she couldnโ€™t stop herselfโ€”it was just that good.

No wonder this place was so popular.

Aaron, meanwhile, ate like he was at some five-star restaurant, perfectly calm and composed. The contrast was almost funny. She looked like a human volcano; he looked like he was posing for a magazine.

Once they finished, Aaron shifted back to business, wrapping up whatever heโ€™d come to talk about. Lena grabbed her bag, ready to leave.

โ€œUncle Aaron, Iโ€™ve got stuff to do. See you.โ€

โ€œLena,โ€ he called, stopping her mid-step.

It was the first time heโ€™d said her name like that since heโ€™d come back. The tone, the familiarityโ€”it yanked her straight into a time warp, back to when they were kids. She froze, waiting.

โ€œIf you ever need to know something, just ask me. Donโ€™t jump to conclusions,โ€ Aaron said.

Lena felt another cringe coming on but brushed it off quickly. โ€œThere wonโ€™t be a next time,โ€ she told herself. She wasnโ€™t about to get tangled in his business again.

Chapter 744

Lena went to see Sasha but got stopped before she even made it inside. Not surprising. She casually told the gatekeeper, โ€œPlease let Sasha Grey know Ian Carter sent me.โ€

That name worked like magic. Or maybe just Ian Carterโ€™s reputation.

Next thing Lena knew, not only was she let in, but Sasha herself came out to meet her.

โ€œYouโ€™ve seen Ian? Where is he?โ€ Sasha asked, her tone urgent.

โ€œCalm down. Letโ€™s sit and talk,โ€ Lena said, her eyes scanning the house. Toys were scattered everywhereโ€”clearly a kidโ€™s favorites.

โ€œWhere is Ian?โ€ Sasha pressed again.

Lena ignored the question, gesturing toward the toys instead. โ€œThese are your daughterโ€™s, right? She must really miss playing with them.โ€

Sashaโ€™s expression shifted, her voice turning wary. โ€œDr. Lane, what are you getting at?โ€

โ€œIan Carter,โ€ Lena said, dragging the name out like a challenge.

Sasha wasnโ€™t stupid. Her eyes narrowed. โ€œYouโ€™re not just here to talk about Ian, are you?โ€

Lena smirked. โ€œYouโ€™re as sharp as ever. No wonder Thorsten Drago trusts you. But yeah, this is about Ian.โ€

โ€œFine. Where is he? Did he send you?โ€ Sasha shot back, her voice a mix of hope and frustration.

โ€œHeโ€™s at DracoLux. You already know that, donโ€™t you? The real issue is, you canโ€™t see him,โ€ Lena asked, following exactly what Keira had told her to say.

Sasha paled. โ€œSoโ€ฆ youโ€™ve seen him?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Lena replied bluntly.

The light in Sashaโ€™s eyes dimmed instantly. She shook her head, murmuring, โ€œNo one can see himโ€ฆ itโ€™s impossibleโ€ฆโ€

Her expressionโ€”a raw mix of disappointment and despairโ€”caught Lena off guard. She hadnโ€™t expected Sasha to be this devoted. Even after all her time by Thorsten Dragoโ€™s side, she was still hopelessly in love with Ian.

It made Lena wonder: โ€œWhat kind of man was Ian Carter to leave someone like Sasha this wrecked?โ€

โ€œHe can be seen,โ€ Lena said, carefully choosing her words to stoke that faint flicker of hope.
