Chapter 199
โMuch better,โ Yvette murmured, leaning against the headboard, a weak smile gracing her pale face.
โThatโs good. Howard will be here soon. Have some water first.โ Josiah lifted the cup from the bedside table and held it to her lips. The straw allowed Yvette to drink without lifting a hand, simply opening her mouth.
A knock sounded. Sienna entered, gently tapping twice. โSorry to disturb you.โ Josiah remained seated, silent.
Yvetteโs eyebrows lifted slightly, a smile forming as she waved at Sienna. โYouโre hereโฆโ She glanced at Josiah, subtly signaling him to move. โMake room forโฆโ
Josiah raised an eyebrow, rose, stepped aside, and pocketed his hands without speaking.
โNo, thanks,โ Sienna said, her gaze fixed on Yvette. โThereโs something I want to discuss with you alone.โ Her words clearly suggested Josiah should leave.
A jolt ran through Yvette. She had a feeling about Siennaโs intentions. โJosiah, could you please step out for a moment?โ
โIโm afraid I canโt,โ Josiah replied reluctantly. โI promised Howard I wouldnโt leave your side until he arrives.โ
Sienna, worried he suspected foul play, offered a cold, silent laugh. โDonโt worry, Mr. Flynn, the room is monitored. If I lay a finger on her, feel free to call the police.โ
Josiah froze, inwardly questioning if he should report her. He felt a surge of anger, fueled by his own unspoken resentments. He snapped, โWait until youโve hurt her to call the police! The law can deal with you. But the pain sheโd endure, you canโt take that back!โ
Sienna was speechless, her expression frozen. She sensed his unconcealed concern for Yvette. Unable to dissuade him, she turned to Yvette, hinting, โWhat should we do now?โ
Yvette intervened, adopting a placating tone. โHold on, Josiah, donโt act like that. Iโll be okay. Sienna and I are just going to chat. Could you step out for a minute, please?โ
Josiah frowned, guessing Siennaโs visit concerned Rosie. He decided to wait. โAlright, Iโm heading out.โ He glanced at his watch; Howard should arrive soon. Before leaving, he instructed Zach, โKeep an eye on things. If thereโs any commotion inside, rush in immediately.โ
โDonโt worry, Mr. Flynn,โ Zach replied.
The hospital room fell silent. Sienna reflected on the power of Josiahโs words, contrasting them with her own ineffective attempts. She addressed Yvette directly, โYou know what Iโm here to talk about, right?โ Yvette gulped nervously. Sienna continued, โYou know exactly how you fell. Getting hurt was an accident. You started this trouble.โ
โWhat do you want?โ Yvetteโs unease grew; the pain of that moment was still vivid. She hadnโt anticipated Janetโs report to the police.
โItโs simple,โ Sienna said, her gaze serious and determined. โThereโs a video on Rosieโs phone showing you tripping me. I want you to drop the charges. I want to get out of this unharmed.โ
Yvette nodded almost instantly, realizing the potential damage to her reputation if the video surfaced online. In her internet-driven profession, scandals were disastrous. Even with the Flynn family's support, a damaged public image could blacklist her.
She silently clenched her fist, her palm sweating. โBut you have to give me Rosieโs phone. I want it destroyed!โ
Sienna nodded. โAlright, itโs a deal. Rosieโs phone was taken by the police. When she gets out, Iโll make sure to hand it to you.โ
Yvette felt no need to worry about Sienna's promise. If Sienna reneged, Yvette still held leverage. Both possessed power in this situation.
Meanwhile, Howard had arrived but hadn't informed Josiah. Instead of going directly to the ward, he consulted the doctor about Yvette's condition.
โIt looked quite serious when she was brought in, all bloodied and battered, but itโs mostly skin wounds. The bones are okay, just a minor fracture, no surgery needed,โ the doctor explained.
Howard breathed a sigh of relief. โThank you.โ
โYouโre welcome,โ the doctor continued, โHowever, Mr. Flynn, the reason she passed out from the pain is partly due to her physical condition. Ever since the miscarriage, she hasnโt recovered completely.โ
The doctor, mindful of the Flynn familyโs status, added, โMr. Flynn, if you plan to have children in the future, sheโll need proper care to recover.โ
Howardโs brow twitched, his face betraying no emotion. He simply nodded. โThanks for the heads-up.โ
โYouโre welcome. Take care, Mr. Flynn,โ the doctor said.
Howard wheeled away, internally reeling from the news of Yvette's miscarriage. A deep shadow fell over his expression.
Josiah hurried to meet him. โYouโre here? I went to the entrance but didnโt find you.โ
โJust checking with the doctor about Yvetteโs situation,โ Howard replied.
โDonโt worry, Yvetteโs condition isnโt too serious. Iโll take you to her,โ Josiah said.
By the time they reached the room, Sienna had left.
Yvetteโs eyes filled with tears at the sight of Howard. He took her hand. โYvette, youโve been through a lot, but donโt worry, Iโve already instructed Josiah. The person who hurt you wonโt get away with it.โ
โYes,โ Josiah confirmed.
โLet me see, where are you hurt? Does it hurt a lot?โ Howard asked gently.
โI feel so sore,โ Yvette replied.
Josiah quietly slipped out, closing the door gently. Checking his phone, he mused that Sienna's encounter with Yvette had likely been unsuccessful. Regardless, he anticipated Sienna's return for Rosie's sake.
Early the next morning, Zach brought good news. โMr. Flynn, weโve got word from the police station that Ms. Young has withdrawn her complaint, and Rosie has been released!โ
