Chapter 275
“Pregnant?” Josiah paused, his voice slightly hoarse. “Are you sure? There’s no mistake?”
It wasn’t impossible, but he and Sienna had been using contraception. They had misread a similar situation once before.
“Yes, I’m sure,” the doctor said with certainty. “The urine and blood tests both confirm it. The pregnancy is very early, less than two weeks along. An ultrasound in six to eight weeks will confirm the gestational age.”
The doctor glanced at Josiah’s frowning face, wondering if he was happy. Could it be he didn’t want the baby?
Josiah frowned, his emotions swirling. He quickly accepted the reality; no contraceptive method was foolproof. He thought of Sienna’s fainting spell a few days ago, her lack of appetite, and her fatigue—all signs pointing to pregnancy.
This should have been a joyous moment, but he felt uncertain. Regarding children, he believed Sienna’s wishes were paramount; she would be the one carrying the child. Frankly, he didn't care much either way; the Flynn family line would continue through his older brother, Howard, who already had a son, Bobby. Of course, he would love a child if they had one. But what did Sienna think? Would she want this baby?
He glanced at the drawn bed curtains. Sienna was lying behind them. “Doctor, when will my wife wake up?”
“It’s hard to say, but it shouldn’t be too long,” the doctor replied.
Josiah nodded, then asked, “Pregnant women faint easily, don’t they? This is the second time my wife has fainted.”
“Not always,” the doctor explained. “It depends on individual health, environment, and emotional state. Pregnant women need to maintain good nutrition, establish good routines, and focus on staying happy.”
“Got it,” Josiah said, his concern shifting back to her arm. “My wife is pregnant. We need to be careful about her medication.”
“Of course,” the doctor said, sensing Josiah’s acceptance. “We’d planned an X-ray for Mrs. Flynn’s arm, but thankfully, the test results came back first. An orthopedic doctor examined her; it’s just a soft tissue bruise in the ligament. With suitable treatment for pregnant women, the swelling should subside in a few days.”
Josiah nodded. “Thank you for your help.”
Sienna was still asleep, so Josiah had her moved to a private room. He watched over her as she rested, the nurse having already applied medicine to her elbow; a calming scent filled the air.
“Josh,” the ward door opened, and Yvette walked in.
“Yvette,” Josiah said, surprised.
He didn’t want to wake Sienna, so he quietly ushered Yvette outside.
“Okay,” Yvette nodded, waiting at the door.
“Why are you here?” Josiah asked, gently closing the door.
“I saw Romilly,” Yvette said, pointing to her leg. “I’m here for a checkup.” Her leg had been injured in a recent altercation with Rosie, and the intense dancing she’d done lately had aggravated it. “Romilly told me you were here,” she added.
So she knew. They must have fought; after what happened with Cedric, how could they not? It had even led to Sienna’s hospitalization.
Yvette pointed inside. “How is Sienna? Is she alright?”
“She’s fine,” Josiah said, his face emotionless, his tone calm. “Sienna’s pregnant.”
“What?” Yvette’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Did you just say Sienna is pregnant?”
Josiah glanced at her. “You heard me. Sienna is pregnant.” He looked at his watch. “Anything else?” His tone implied he was ready to return to Sienna.
Yvette forced a smile. Josiah nodded. “Then I’ll go in. Sienna could wake up any minute.”
“Okay, Josiah.” As Josiah turned to leave, Yvette grabbed his arm.
Josiah frowned. “Is there something else?”
Yvette offered a strained smile. “I just wanted to congratulate you and Sienna.”
A rare smile touched Josiah’s lips. “Thank you, and thanks from Sienna too.”
“You’re welcome,” Yvette said, noticing his focus remained entirely on Sienna.
“Josiah,” Yvette stopped him again. He frowned, wondering what it was this time.
Inside the ward, Sienna stirred and slowly opened her eyes. She was in the hospital, and remembered fainting in Josiah’s arms. What was happening now? Was she pregnant? Did Josiah know?
Cold sweat broke out. She threw off the blanket, got out of bed, and headed for the door. Yvette’s heart raced.
Yvette bit her lip. “Are you sure that Sienna’s baby is yours?”
Silence fell. Josiah’s expression darkened. “What do you mean? Do you realize what you’re saying?”
“Have you considered that…” Yvette looked directly at Josiah, determined to speak her mind. “Have you considered that she may not have been with you willingly?”
“She likes Cedric. They’ve been seeing each other behind your back. You saw them hugging. Who knows what else happened when you weren’t around?”
“Shut up!” Josiah snapped, his anger flaring. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Nonsense?” Yvette laughed humorlessly. “Josiah, you’re blinded by love. You’re willing to be a cuckold—”
She stopped abruptly, staring ahead. Josiah followed her gaze, seeing Sienna, awake.
He rushed to her, reaching out, but Sienna dodged his touch. She smiled at them. “I heard everything.”
“Sienna,” Josiah grasped her wrist, concern etched on his face. “Let’s go inside and talk.” His tone softened, desperate.
“Don’t bother,” Sienna said, her smile widening as she looked at Yvette. “You’re right. My baby is not Josiah’s.”
