Chapter 291
โMr. Flynn, please wait!โ Rosie called, but her blurred vision left her feeling desperate. She struggled to understand Siennaโs perspective. โSienna, why donโt you explain?โ
She knew Sienna had wanted to leave before, but things had changed. Rosie pondered Sienna's ectopic pregnancy and their current discord. What would the future hold? What were Sienna's plans?
Sienna stared blankly at the hospital room doorway, sighing sadly. โI can explain the ectopic pregnancy clearly, but how do I explain the money and the assessments? Those were clear indications she was leaving him.โ
โShould I try to win him back and pretend everything is fine?โ Siennaโs voice dripped with bitterness and sarcasm. โDo you think he would everโฆ?โ She knew he wouldnโt. Even if they reconciled, Josiah would always be wary. She envisioned the fortress he would build around himself. Plus, her post-surgery condition made another pregnancy seem impossible soon.
Sienna couldnโt endure a long wait. Leaning against the bed, she sat down. โRosie, I feel so drained,โ she confessed. โI donโt have the confidence or energy to fight with him anymore.โ
Her eyes reddened. Thoughts of Joyce surfaced. โMy poor Joyce, I want to spend more time with her.โ She felt deeply indebted to her daughter.
After so long with Josiah, it seemed they were incompatible. Joyceโs health was fragile, her second pregnancy having ended badly. Any future plans would have to wait until she recovered physically.
Maybe sheโd ask Josiah for another chance; perhaps other opportunities would arise while she was away. Or, she might be backed into a corner, left with only one choice.
In the following days, Sienna spent several more days in the hospital. On the fifth day, after a doctor's visit, she was discharged. The recovery had been good. She completed the discharge papers and went home.
The doctor handed her the papers and a long list of instructions: โWatch your diet and get plenty of rest. Wait at least three months before having sex. If you want to get pregnant, wait at least six months.โ
Sienna lowered her gaze, her eyelashes fluttering. โThank you, doctor.โ
โItโs my job,โ the doctor replied.
Since Rosie couldnโt see, after handling the paperwork, Sienna first took her back to City Pearl. Rosie said, โCall a car for me; I can get the home helper to help me.โ
โIโm not fragile,โ Sienna insisted, accompanying her to the apartment entrance. โThe doctor said Iโm fine. Youโve been at the hospital with me for several daysโplease, go inside and rest; I wonโt be joining you.โ
After days in the hospital, Sienna longed to see Joyce.
โBye, Sienna.โ
โBye!โ
That afternoon, Joyce was playing in the park. Sienna heard Joyceโs laughter from afar. Joyceโs friend, Seth, was swinging, while Joyce puffed out her cheeks, pushing him.
โJoyce, keep going! Push higher!โ
โOkay!โ Joyceโs face lit up with excitement as she pushed with all her might. โYouโre flying now!โ As she let go, she saw Sienna. โMommy!โ Joyce rushed to Sienna, jumping into her arms and proudly pointing to Seth. โMommy, look! I was pushing Seth on the swing!โ
Sienna smiled, wiping the sweat from Joyceโs forehead and playfully pinching her nose. โYou are amazing!โ
โHi, Sienna,โ Seth said, stepping down from the swing. โI also pushed Joyce on the swing; we take turns.โ
Siennaโs eyes softened as she affectionately ruffled Sethโs hair. โJoyce has told meโSeth is her best friend.โ
โJoyce is my best friend too!โ Seth blushed shyly, taking Joyceโs hand. โJoyce, letโs go play again!โ
โOf course!โ Joyce waved at her mother. โMommy, wait for me!โ
โAlright,โ Sienna smiled, trying to hide her heartache. She wouldn't show sadness in front of Joyce; she believed strength would help her daughter face the world with a smile.
At City Pearl, Rosie got her keys and entered the apartment. The home helper quickly approached, whispering, โMs. Miller, your husbandโฆโ
Before she could finish, Rosie heard Danielโs voice and instinctively stepped back. โWhatโฆwhat are you doing here again?โ
โYou make it sound like Iโm doing something wrong,โ Daniel chuckled. โIโm a husband looking for his wife. Surely, I donโt need to justify that?โ He approached the sofa, stopping in front of Rosie. โRosie, I was wrong last time; Iโm here to apologize. Will you come home with me, please?โ
โNo, no!โ Rosie shook her head, feeling scared.
Daniel frowned. โI regret my actions; if you forgive me this time, I promise it wonโt happen again. Will you trust me?โ
Rosie scoffed. Sheโd heard this empty talk countless times. Each apology had been followed by his return to other women, a never-ending cycle of abuse. โDaniel, do you even believe the nonsense youโre saying?โ
โNonsense!โ Danielโs face darkened, his anger barely concealed. โI know youโre still upset, and I wonโt blame youโฆ but today, youโre coming home with me!โ He reached for her wrist.
โIโm not going! I wonโt go anywhere!โ Rosie exclaimed.
โSir, please let her go!โ The frightened home helper intervened. โEven if she is your wife, if she doesnโt want to go, you canโt force her.โ
Daniel sneered at the home helper. โRosie, so you can afford a home helper now? Where did you get the money?โ Recalling the man who had taken her away before, he gritted his teeth. โRosie, have you been taken care of by someone else? Tell me! Who is that guy? You betrayed me! Today, youโre leaving with me, no matter what!โ
Using all his strength, Daniel pulled Rosie toward the door. โMs. Miller!โ the home helper shouted, โHoward is here!โ
Howard, gripping his cane, hurried over. From a distance, he saw Rosie being dragged by Daniel, tears in her eyes.
