Chapter 308

Sienna frowned, silent. Maggie chattered incessantly. โ€œDid you hear? Yvette disappeared! The Fast Entertainment manager is frantic. They're training new talentโ€ฆ Sienna, this is our chance!โ€

Sienna's frown deepened. She wondered if East Entertainment was making a temporary investment. What was Josiah doing?

Across the room, Josiah's gaze found Sienna. She seemed in good spirits; hopefully, little Joyce hadn't troubled her last night.

Charles approached Josiah. "Mr. Flynn, would you like a seat?"

"No, thanks," Josiah replied, smiling and waving his hand. "I'm just an outsider; I wouldn't want to meddle." He glanced at his watch. "It's getting late. Everyone's worked hard. I've ordered afternoon tea for everyone to take a break."

Zach, understanding the cue, opened the door. Outside, couriers arrived, carrying boxes of Tasty Bites tea snacks.

Charles smiled his thanks. "Mr. Flynn, thank you."

"You're welcome," Josiah replied faintly. "You're all making money for East Entertainment. It's just some tea and snacks, especially for you, Mr. Carter. I need you to keep putting in the effort."

Josiah checked his watch. "Mr. Carter, I think we should wrap up. I apologize, but I'd like to take someone with me."

"Ah?" Charles was surprised, not having yet sampled the treats. He quickly stood at attention. "Mr. Flynn, who would you like to take?"

"Over there." Josiah subtly raised his eyebrows, indicating Sienna. With a long stride, he walked toward her.

Maggie, nervous, stammered, "Mr. Flynn's coming! He's here for us!"

Sienna, however, frowned and lowered her eyes. Josiah stopped before her, a smile playing on his lips. "Let's go. I've already spoken with Mr. Carter."

Maggie realized Josiah had come for Sienna. Are they still together? she thought. Hasn't Mr. Flynn grown tired of her yet?

Maggie tugged at her lips, glancing at Sienna. "Sienna, Mr. Flynn is talking to you." Murmurs arose. "Who is she?" "The new actress playing the first beauty, her name is Sienna." "Does she know Mr. Flynn?" "Judging by her face, she doesn't seem to. Hahaโ€ฆ" "No wonder she got the nod from Mr. Carterโ€ฆ" The voices were low, but snippets of conversation were audible.

Sienna looked up, glaring at Josiah, but she didn't dare to react. A shouted outburst would only fuel rumors.

"Let's go." Josiah saw her pout, feeling a pang of guilt. He took her wrist. Sienna instinctively tried to pull away but restrained herself.

Josiah smiled, leading her from the conference room. Before leaving, he greeted Charles. "Mr. Carter, you've worked hard. Everyone can leave early today."

"Of course, Mr. Flynn."

Outside the conference room, Sienna silently shook off Josiah's hand. Josiah smiled gently. "Upset? Blaming me for showing up? Think about it, what day is it today?" Sienna thought, What day? In her anger, she couldn't recall.

"You really are forgetful," Josiah teased, lightly tapping her forehead. "Today's the day to see the doctor, for massage and to pick up medicine. Remember now?"

Sienna was startled, the memory flooding back. Her anger subsided.

"Should I scold you for being careless, or for your poor memory?" Josiah took her hand again, speaking softly. He chuckled. "Fortunately, Joyce is a girl. Daughters tend to take after their fathers, so she'll be smart, for sure." Sienna glared.

"I'm wrong," Josiah quickly corrected. "She'll take after youโ€”smart and beautiful. Come on, let's not keep the doctor waiting. I get the feeling he's not the most patient guy."

Few dared to contradict Mr. Flynn. Sienna understood and followed him to the car, remaining sullen and silent.

The same scenario played out at the doctor's office. The doctor lectured Josiah. "Mr. Flynn, if you keep upsetting her, don't bother with the treatments. A bad mood negates the therapy's benefits."

Just as I expected, Josiah thought, the doctor has a bad temper.

"Go in and lie down," the doctor instructed, leading Sienna inside. Josiah waited, collecting the prepared medicine.

When they emerged, Sienna's face was still expressionless. Concerned, Josiah leaned down. "Was it your first massage? Are you okay?"

Sienna paused, releasing her tension. She nodded. "It's fine."

Josiah chuckled softly. "Let's go."

On the way back, Josiah suggested, "How about dinner? Since you're on medication, something light. Soup Bowls? You used to love their porridge, right?"

Sienna turned, looking at him steadily. "What do you want? Stop beating around the bush!"

"Hmm?" Josiah's grip on the steering wheel tightened. A mild amusement played on his face. "What makes you say that?"

Sienna gave a faint, cold laugh. "The temporary investment, parachuting into the crew, ordering afternoon tea, taking me away in front of everyoneโ€ฆ You didn't do all that for nothing, did you?"

"You're talking about all that, huh!" Josiah nodded, his smile fading. "What do you think I want?"

"To pursue me," Sienna stated without hesitation. "Right?"

"Right." Their exchange was swift, a rapid Q&A.

Sienna paused, then smiled. "I can see you love Joyce very much. Probably a natural instinct. You loved her before you knew she was your daughter. Butโ€ฆ"

She continued, "You don't need to waste your time on me for Joyce's sake."

"Joyce?" Josiah was bewildered. "You think I'm being nice to you, making a public show, all because of Joyce?"

"Yes," Sienna nodded.

"Siennaโ€ฆ" Josiah began.

Sienna added quickly, "Probably not entirely because of her."

She looked at him gently. "You might have a bit of a liking for me. I'm not the same as I was four years ago. I'm not as annoyingโ€ฆ"

"Anyway, since you can't be with the one you truly love, I guess I'm just good enough for you to make do with, plus we do have a daughter," Sienna concluded.
