Chapter 325
Howard sat down. "Go ahead, Miranda."
Miranda said anxiously, "Be honest. Is Josiah's injury related to the same people behind your accident?"
Howard frowned. "Miranda, you promised you wouldn't manage things once the Flynn family was in our hands."
Miranda said anxiously, "I'm not meddling, but after both your accidents, shouldn't I at least ask?"
Howard hesitated, especially concerning Josiah and the Evans family. He vaguely nodded. "Yeah."
Unable to get more answers, Miranda was frustrated. "Fine, I won't ask anymore."
"Get some rest, Miranda," Howard said, rising to leave.
"Come back!" Miranda called. "I'm thinking of transferring the Rivulet Road villa to Sienna. Any objections?"
"Why would I?" Howard asked curiously. "It's your property."
"That's good," Miranda sighed in relief, clasping her hands. "As long as Josiah wakes up. I'd give Sienna anything! I hope Josiah doesn't end up like you."
"Miranda, Josiah won't," Howard replied. They looked at each other, both anxious.
Outside, Yvette stood with Miranda's medicine, her expression unreadable. She hadn't eavesdropped intentionally; she usually brought the medicine when Howard visited, and the door wasn't fully closed. She heard the last few sentences. She smiled quietly, thinking, Josiah hasn't woken yet, and Miranda's already offering the villa. She's so generous.
Holding back her frustration, she knocked, smiling. "Miranda, your medicine."
The sky was brightening. Sienna woke on the couch and went to freshen up. The nurse had come to check, and the caretaker was preparing to bathe and dress Josiah.
When she emerged, the nurse was there. The caretaker was a strong man, easily helping Josiah turn and change. Sienna assisted, but offered to shave him.
"Sure," the caretaker nodded, handing her the razor. "His face is steamed; just add shaving cream."
Sienna squeezed out some cream and applied it. She bent down, carefully shaving him. Afterward, she cleaned his face with a warm towel. "All done."
She passed the items to the caretaker and turned to wash her hands. The hem of her dress felt heavy, as if pulled. She looked down, hearing the nurse's excited voice. "Josiah! He moved!" Sienna saw Josiah's hand tugging her dress.
Does he wake? Sienna abruptly lifted her head. Josiah still lay asleep. Her heart pounded. "Please notify the doctor!"
"I go now," the nurse replied.
"Josiah woke up? Is he awake?" Miranda's anxious yet joyful voice came from outside. Sienna looked up as Miranda entered, followed by Howard and Yvette. Miranda rushed to the bedside but saw Josiah was still sleeping.
Miranda was stunned, looking at Sienna. "Didn't you say Josiah moved?"
"Yes," Sienna said, uncertain, as the doctor had just checked Josiah.
"So what's going on? Josiah's the same, isn't he?" Yvette glanced at Sienna. "Were you so tired you got it wrong? Or did you say that to make Miranda happy?"
Miranda looked even more worried. "Sienna, is that true?!"
"No," Sienna shook her head, giving Yvette a speechless look. "The nurse saw it too."
The nurse nearby nodded quietly. "Miranda, I saw it. Josiah moved."
Miranda asked, "Thenโฆ?"
"Miranda," the doctor entered. "I just stepped away. Sorry."
Miranda said urgently, "It's fine. Tell me Josiah's condition."
The doctor replied, "I just checked Josiah. His limbs show signs of voluntary movement."
"What do you mean?" Miranda asked.
"This means he's not in a deep vegetative coma," the doctor replied.
Miranda sighed with relief. "That's good." But she asked, "When will he wake up?"
"I can't guarantee that, but Josiah is improving. Be patient and supportive," the doctor replied.
"Okay," Miranda turned to Sienna, holding her hand. "Sienna, I was worried. Don't take it to heart. I apologize. You've worked hard."
"You were needed here. As soon as you arrived, Josiah got better. He hears your voice," Miranda said.
"Miranda, don't mention it," Sienna replied.
The doctor chuckled. "Miranda's right. Ms. Shaw, your contribution is significant." In the hospital, many patients waited for someone special. There were inexplicable miracles in medicine. "Did you hear that?" Miranda was even more confident in Sienna. "Sienna, Josiah is counting on you."
"I'll do my best, Miranda," Sienna nodded. How could I not hope for him to wake up?
After Josiah's treatment, Miranda and the others left. Yvette lingered, glancing at Sienna. "Feeling proud now, aren't you?"
Sienna was surprised.
Yvette sneered, "Don't get too full of yourself. It's the doctors who deserve the credit, not you!"
Sienna laughed. "Yeah, I think so. But getting worked up with me is pointless. Tell Miranda it's all the doctors."
Yvette paused, hating Sienna's calm attitude. Since Sienna's adoption, they'd constantly competed for Miranda's affection and the attention of Howard and Josiah. But where did it go wrong? The girl who always lost now outshines me.
At the Flynn residence, with Josiah's condition uncertain, they ate a simple meal. Miranda returned to her room, and soon, Howard left. Yvette, leaning against her upstairs window, saw him get into a car with Harvey. Where is he going? Following him isn't possible. What should I do? That day in Sunshine Neighborhood, he talked with Si about a nursing homeโฆ
