Chapter 338
Upon arriving at the hospital, they found Miranda lying on the examination bed. She had simply forgotten to take her medication. Linda had already delivered it, but Miranda had set it aside, intending to take it later, then forgotten.
โGrandma!โ Josiah exclaimed, his irritable temper flaring. โWhatโs going on with you?โ
โAh!โ Miranda cried, clutching her chest and glaring. โYou scared me half to death! Was that intentional? Your bad temper! No wonder Sienna doesnโt like you!โ
Josiah was taken aback. โHow can you compare yourself to Sienna? Who would lose their temper with a woman they like?โ
Miranda chuckled, โCrowing up, getting feisty, huh! Little rascal! Always upsetting me!โ
โYou started it!โ Josiah retorted.
Their bickering actually improved Mirandaโs spirits. Howard observed silently, grateful for his younger brother's presence. After their parents' passing, Josiah was the anchor of their family. Miranda still needed two more examinations.
The elderly lady was wheeled into the examination room for the first test. Howard waited outside while Josiah took the forms to queue for another appointment. Before leaving, he grabbed Sienna's hand, saying, โHoward's here; come with me to line up.โ Sienna was effectively dragged along.
Reaching the examination room, Sienna tugged at her arm. โLet go!โ
โWhatโs the matter?โ Josiah asked, looking down. โTrying to run away again?โ
Sienna replied, โAren't you going to give the forms to the doctor? Planning to walk in hand-in-hand?โ
Josiah smirked. โSo what? Afraid theyโll be envious?โ
โJosiah!โ Sienna frowned. โYou can be so shameless!โ
Josiah refused to let go. โWhat if I let go and you run away?โ
โI wonโt run,โ Sienna said helplessly. โIf I were to run, it would be after Grandmaโs examination results are out.โ
Josiah knew Sienna truly cared only for Miranda. Hesitating, he released her hand. โIโm going in; wait for me outside. After Grandmaโs examination results are out, Iโll take you home, and weโll talk on the way.โ
He entered the examination room. Sienna turned and left. Josiah handed over the formsโa process taking less than half a minuteโbut upon exiting, Sienna was gone.
โSienna!โ Josiah looked around, his heart sinking. She had deceived him! He called her; the call connected, but she didnโt answer.
โSienna,โ he muttered, rubbing his forehead. โPick up the phone, please.โ It was late; he worried about her safety, especially after her encounter with a harassing taxi driver.
โJosiah?โ Yvette appeared, looking puzzled. โWhy are you alone? Whereโs Sienna?โ She quickly realized and smirked. โShe left, didnโt she? Didnโt you stop her?โ
Josiah, holding his phone, said, โI just went in to hand over the forms.โ
โOh,โ Yvette said, understanding. โIn such a short time, she left. If sheโs gone, then sheโs gone. Grandma is getting examined; she staying here wouldnโt help much anyway.โ
Josiah didnโt respond. โWhy did you come? Is Grandmaโs examination over?โ
Yvette shook her head. After a moment, she said, โI feel a bit uncomfortable staying with Howard now, so Iโฆโ She and Howard, childhood sweethearts and lovers for over a decade, had recently broken up. โNow, are we friends or siblings?โ she mused.
Josiah asked, โAre you okay?โ
Yvette laughed. โHmmm? What could be wrong! Itโs just a breakup. Thousands of people go through breakups. Itโs not life-threatening.โ
She shifted the topic. โYou too, right? I heard from Sienna that you two broke up, and you initiated it. Is that true?โ
Josiah couldnโt deny it. He had proposed the breakup due to a misunderstanding, believing Sienna had terminated their child. He deeply regretted it.
โMm-hmm,โ Josiah nodded.
Meanwhile, Sienna, experiencing her period, had taken a restroom break. Leaving the restroom, she overheard a conversation.
โItโs no wonder thenโฆโ Yvette said, referring to an earlier dinner. โShe just exchanged WhatsApp with that driver and said she doesnโt have a boyfriend.โ Yvette laughed. โThe way things are between usโฆ arenโt we in the same boat?โ Her heart raced, but her expression remained indifferent. โWhat do you think of me?โ she asked Josiah.
โWhat?โ Josiah was stunned.
Yvetteโs smile faded; she became nervous. Her eyes glistened. โIf I had known it would come to this, back thenโฆ I should have chosen you. We know each other well, rarely argue. Weโd probably get along very well.โ She looked at him steadily. โJosiah, I choose you now. Is it still in time?โ
Around the corner, Siennaโs pupils dilated. She instinctively stepped back. She thought, โIn this situation, it wonโt be appropriate for me to step forward. Maybe I should just leave.โ
โMiss, could you please lift your foot? Youโre stepping on my mop,โ said the night-shift cleaner.
Sienna turned, hastily lifted her foot, and apologized.
โItโs okay,โ the cleaner said.
โSienna?โ Josiah, still reeling from Yvetteโs confession, heard the noise. It was Sienna! He saw her and exclaimed, โSienna, you didnโt leave? Where did you goโฆโ
Before he could finish, Sienna saw Yvette behind him and smiled awkwardly. โIโm leaving now.โ
โWhere are you going?โ Josiah asked.
Siennaโs gaze turned cold. โI donโt need to report to you where Iโm going, do I?โ
Josiah frowned. โI was worried about you.โ
Sienna smiled faintly. โNo need. Save your worries for someone who needs them.โ
