Her Exit 488

Listen to this chapter:

The scent of chamomile from Tylerโ€™s shampoo still lingered in the air. It was fresh and calming, making it hard to stay awake.

Rachel let out a yawn. โ€œStop talking already. Let me keep going.โ€

All she wanted now was to lull Tyler to sleep as quickly as possible.

Tyler rested his head on Rachelโ€™s lap without hesitation. โ€œGo on.โ€

Rachel looked at him. Could he not be like this?

On second thought, if she kept wasting time arguing with him, he might stay awake until sunrise.

So she started making things up.

โ€œWilliamโ€™s uncle might have some sort of deformity, who knows? Maybe thereโ€™s something wrong with his face. That would explain why he never shows up anywhere. Either heโ€™s horribly disfigured, or just like the psychos in those movies. I mean, somethingโ€™s definitely off.โ€

Tylerโ€™s brows twitched as he listened. Rachel was basically describing him as a monster.

Just as he lifted his head, ready to ask for more detail, he noticed Rachelโ€™s head drooping. Her lips parted slightly, and her lashes lowered. Her breathing was shallow.

Was she asleep?

He smiled. Wasnโ€™t this all a little backward? Wasnโ€™t she supposed to help him fall asleep? How had it turned into him lulling her to sleep?

He slowly sat up and gently helped lay her down on the bed, carefully pulling the blanket over her.

โ€œI think I must owe you something in my past life,โ€ he murmured under his breath.

Tyler stepped out onto the balcony, quietly closing the window so he wouldnโ€™t wake her. He then gave Jason a call.

Jason was already sound asleep. When he answered the call, he couldnโ€™t stop yawning.

โ€œWhat are you, nocturnal now? Do you even know what time it is? I thought Rachel was supposed to help you sleep these days. Didnโ€™t she show up?โ€

โ€œShe fell asleep.โ€

โ€œWhat? Youโ€™re kidding me, right? Sheโ€™s supposed to put you to sleep, not the other way around. This is totally backward.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know. She was telling me about how Williamโ€™s uncle might be some kind of psychoโ€“maybe hideously ugly, never seen in public, possibly a two-headed freak, or just your typical creepy recluse. She even said some of these psychos in movies dress up dead women in wedding gowns after killing them.โ€

Jason burst out laughing.

โ€œOh my goodness! Her imagination is next level.โ€

Jason was too busy laughing to even feel bad for Tyler.

He had known Tyler since they were kids, and no one had ever described him quite like that before. It was just too good.

Tylerโ€™s voice turned cold. โ€œIf you donโ€™t shut up, Iโ€™ll hang up.โ€

Jason immediately stopped laughing. โ€œAlright, alright, Iโ€™m done. But seriously, Iโ€™ve never heard anyone talk about you like that. Itโ€™s wild. In her defense, can you really blame her? If you had just told her sooner that youโ€™re Williamโ€™s uncle, she mightโ€™ve already rushed to marry you.โ€

Chapter 488

Tyler snorted. โ€œIf you were her, would you want to marry someone from the same family that hurt you that badly? Keep seeing that same disgusting face every day?โ€

Jason paused. He realized Tyler had a point.

โ€œYeah, youโ€™re right, especially considering Rachel has a history of running away. If she isnโ€™t mentally prepared and suddenly finds out your true identity, she might run again. You really would die alone by then.โ€

Tyler rubbed his temples.

โ€œHelp me leak some news tomorrow. Just say that Williamโ€™s uncle is coming back. Paint me in a slightly better light. Leave some room for imagination,โ€ he said.
