Chapter 69
William didnโt seem to have much patience or time left to waste here.
Samantha glanced at Rachel and gave her a slight nod before opening the door to the front passenger seat and settling down in it.
Rachel stood where she was as her heart fell. She took a while to recover, then opened the car door and sat in the back row. For some reason, she suddenly felt a dull pain in her chest and became slightly out of breath.
Just then, Samantha asked William, โAre you able to send me to the airport? My mother is here to visit. I wanted to call a cab, but I didnโt expect you to buy my laptop.โ
โNo problem, itโs on the way,โ he said offhandedly.
Rachel clenched her fists so hard they turned white. Even her lips turned pale. William didnโt ask for her opinion. He didnโt even bother asking her if she had anything on later. She was in his car, but it was as though she were invisible.
โRachel, Iโm so sorry. My mother is here to see me. I probably wonโt be in time to hail a cab over. If itโs convenient for you, can you take a cab back?โ
Rachel naturally didnโt want to be in the same space as them. She said to William, โDrop me off at the junction right ahead. I feel slightly unwell, so Iโll hail a cab and head to the nearest hospital. Iโll leave my things in your car.โ
William looked up at the rearview mirror, through which he could see Rachel not looking too good. โWhere do you feel unwell? Why donโt you wait for me to come find you after fetching her mother? Just find a cafe and wait for me there.โ
Yet, Rachel told him that she couldnโt wait. A dull pain throbbed in her chest, and she had difficulty breathing. She was suffocating from within, and her heartbeat felt abnormal. She might be in danger of dying right there and then if she didnโt go to a hospital immediately.
She gripped her chest, her voice quavering. โNo need, Iโll just hail a cab and go to the hospital right now. You can come and find me later.โ
โThat works, too.โ
Pain continued to throb in Rachelโs chest. In the past, William would immediately send her to the hospital the moment she complained of any discomfort, regardless of how bad it was. Yet now, her health was nothing compared to fetching Samanthaโs mother.
William simply dropped Rachel off at the junction up ahead. Coincidentally, Rachel found herself caught in the evening rush hour and couldnโt find a cab even after a long time. The suffocating feeling in her chest felt so intense, she started feeling weak all over until she eventually collapsed on the floor.
Suddenly, a familiarโlooking white car stopped by her side. Rachelโs heart skipped a beat. Was William back for her? She struggled to look upโwhen she saw Tyler, the light in her eyes dimmed.
Tyler noticed the subtle change in Rachelโs eyes. He scoffed, the tone in his voice chilling as usual.
โWhat? You look disappointed to see me. Thought I was William, who came running back with his conscience pricked after heartlessly leaving with his lover?โ
Rachel didnโt know why she always bumped into Tyler when she was down in the dumps. They probably had an unresolved grudge in their past lives. She said selfโderisively, โPeople sometimes really have no selfโrespect in imagining things that could never happen.โ
Tyler crossed his arms with feigned disappointment.
โYouโre so rigid. Shouldnโt you be impressed by how romantic I am to wait here specifically for you?โ he said lazily.
