Chapter 805

Rachel’s face turned pale. Her lips trembled uncontrollably.

“M–My dad just passed away.”

Jerry was stunned. He slammed his foot on the brake. “How did it happen so suddenly?”

“I–I don’t know. Could it be because I upset him today?”

Rachel thought about the harsh words she had said earlier, and guilt gnawed at her.

She knew that with Jim’s health, he couldn’t withstand stress—and yet, she had still said those things to him.

Jerry knew Rachel too well. He feared she would shoulder all the blame, just as she always had.

He quickly tried to comfort her.

“Don’t overthink it. This isn’t on you. Your father’s health issues didn’t start today. He’s had problems for a long time. It was only a matter of time.”

He gently patted her shoulder. His brows furrowed as he noticed how shaken she looked.

“Rachel, believe me, this wasn’t your fault. If you’re worried it was, we can ask the doctor if his passing was triggered by stress.”

Rachel took a deep breath and wiped her face. She knew there were still many things waiting for her to handle, and she had to pull herself together.

No matter the conflicts between her and Jim while he was alive, nothing could change the fact that he was her father. Now that he was gone, there was no point in clinging to old resentments.

The least she could do was walk him through his final journey.

Her voice was calm as she turned to Jerry.

“Let’s go back to the Lloyd family estate. I’ll give you a list. Call everyone on it.”

“Understood.”

Seeing Rachel take charge steadied Jerry a little.

News of Jim Lloyd’s death quickly spread across Yurelia City. Rachel had originally planned to spend time with Cecilia, but that would have to wait.

As soon as Cecilia heard, she rushed to the Lloyd family estate.

By then, the mourning venue was already set up. Funeral music was being played. Rachel and Yvette pressed their palms together in silent prayer.

Dressed in black, Rachel’s face looked even paler than before.

Cecilia stepped forward and gently touched Rachel’s shoulder. Rachel looked up with a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

“You came?”

“I came as soon as I heard. At first, I thought maybe it was just the media spreading rumors. But after checking, I realized it was true. I’m so sorry for your loss. Don’t blame yourself too much. You did everything you could.”

Others might not have known, but Cecilia had seen with her own eyes how Rachel treated Jim. She was so much better to him than Yvette, who did nothing but talk big.

Cecilia pulled Rachel into a comforting hug.

At that moment, Tyler walked in, dressed in a black suit. He immediately found Rachel in the crowd. He walked over and rested his hand lightly on her shoulder. His palm radiated warmth through the fabric, offering her silent comfort.

Rachel tilted her head up to look at him, and in that moment, her defenses completely crumbled.

Her voice broke.

“Tyler…”

Tyler pulled her into his arms while gently patting her back. He was coaxing her as if she were a child.

“It’s okay. I’m here. Go handle what you need to. Leave the rest to me.”
