Chapter 827
William said nothing further, and Samantha finally felt relieved.
She had to find a way to cling to William so he wouldnโt ask her for a divorce again at such a critical juncture. If they divorced, sheโd be left with nothing!
It wasnโt a good thing that William was infertile while Rachel and Tylerโs relationship became stronger with each passing day.
Tyler couldnโt be bothered by the two of them. He didnโt care about the Lewis familyโs assets at all.
Rachel told him to take care of his father and that she was fully capable of handling things at her fatherโs funeral.
Half an hour later, the doctor came by with Thomasโ medical report.
โFamily members of Mr. Lewis, let me explain things to you. I have his medical report, and heโs generally fine. The growth is benign, and we can just remove the tumor through surgery.โ
Everyone heaved a sigh of relief.
Then the doctor added, โHowever, because the patient is too advanced in years and his mood hasnโt been good as of late, his organs are starting to fail. Youโll have to mentally prepare yourselves for whatโs coming.โ
Tyler and William frowned.
William was the first to raise a question. โWhatโฆwhat do you mean his organs are starting to fail? Didnโt you say that the tumor is benign?โ
โThe tumor is benign, but you know that Mr. Lewis is old. Itโs only natural that his body is breaking down. No one can stop that from happening.โ
โCan he be treated?โ William followed up with another question.
The doctor shook his head. โGetting old and falling sick is part of life. Itโs not something we can stop. You should understand what I mean by that.โ
William nodded. โI understand.โ
The doctor went on, โDonโt think so much. After he gets discharged, let him do what he pleases and spend more time with him. You can even take him overseas for a holiday.โ
Tyler stood up and said flatly, โAlright, we got it. Thank you, doctor.โ
After the doctor left them, William slumped against the wall. He clenched his fists and punched the wall.
โItโs all my fault for neglecting Grandpaโs health. Iโve always thought that he was fine.โ
Samantha approached him and said comfortingly, โWilliam, donโt blame yourself for everything. What does this have to do with you, anyway? The doctor made it clear that itโs all part of aging. You should be thankful that itโs not lung cancer, or heโll have to suffer the pain of the disease.โ
Just then, Thomasโ eyes opened slowly. His weak and frail appearance lessened his usual severe and stern aura.
โWhatโฆwhat are you two arguing about?โ
William hurried over to Thomasโ side when he heard him speak. โGrandpa, how do you feel right now? Do you feel unwell anywhere? Let me call the doctor over.โ
โIโm fineโฆ Get me discharged quickly.โ
Thomas tried getting out of bed.
William hurriedly pressed him back down. โThe doctor said that you canโt be discharged just yet. Youโll need to be hospitalized for at least one week. You took a fall and have to be kept under observation.โ
Thomas hated being hospitalized and disliked the smell in the hospital.
Long ago, he told William that if he fell severely ill and was untreatable, he didnโt want to die on the operating table. Instead, he wanted to pass away peacefully at home.
โWilliam, are you bent on going against me? What did I tell you? I want to be discharged! Do you understand me?โ Thomas yelled with all his might, frightening William so much that he took two steps back.
Thomas used to serve in the military and exuded an air of authority that ordinary people didnโt have.
In the family, the two men William feared most were his grandfather and his uncle.
