Chapter 907
Rachel stepped forward and called out to Ray and Sunny, who were crouching at the door. โCome here. Donโt scare our guest.โ
The two dogs seemed to understand what Rachel meant; they wagged their tails and came bounding over to her. Their gaze darted occasionally to Jerry, filled with wariness.
โThey are very guarded.โ
โItโs fine.โ
Rachel instructed the dogs to stay to one side before she headed upstairs.
When they entered the study, Jerry grabbed a chair and sat down, pulling out a stack of documents from his suitcase and pushing it toward Rachel.
โThese are financing channels I found over the past two days, as well as some customers weโve worked with previously. Iโve asked around, and I can borrow around 30 million dollars. The interest rate is very high and is calculated by the dayโฆโ
Rachel glanced at the numbers on the documents and shook her head. โ30 million dollars isnโt enough. We need over a hundred million dollars.โ
โWhat should we do, then? If nothing else works, we can borrow from loan sharks.โ
โNo way!โ Rachel cut him off, her voice firm and unwavering. โItโll be a bottomless pit. Weโre not talking about thousands, but millions of dollars. Would they bother being loan sharks if they had that much money? Theyโd open a company themselves!โ
โBut youโll be sued and perhaps jailed!โ
Jerry stood up anxiously, his hands gripping the edge of the table. When he spoke, his voice was trembling.
โYouโre my boss and my family! If you hadnโt taken me in, I wouldโve gone to jail! Why donโtโฆ Why donโt I tell Hannah that I was the one who misappropriated company funds and that she should be suing me. Iโll go to jail on your behalf!โ
Rachelโs heart swelled at the sight of how anxious Jerry was getting for her sake. She patted his arm, signaling him to sit down.
โJerry, I know youโre doing this for my good, but I canโt make things hard for you because of what I did. If I really let you take the blame, what would that make me?โ
โButโฆโ
โNo buts,โ Rachel said, cutting him off. There was a determined look in her eyes as she went on, โIโve thought it through. If I canโt raise the money I need in two daysโ time, Iโll let nature take its course. I wonโt push away the responsibility Iโm supposed to take on.โ
โWhat about Mr. Hunt? Have you told him this? He surely wonโt turn a blind eye.โ
Jerry was giving this his very last shot.
Rachel shook her head. โTylerโs up to his ears dealing with his company. Didnโt you see how hard heโs been working the past two days? Heโs trying to raise funds for me.โ
Jerry saw how Rachel had set her mind to it, and it seemed they had exhausted all other options too.
โAlright, then.โ
Seeing him so anxious, Rachel patted him gently. โAlright. All these things can be worked through. Even if I get sentenced to jail, it wouldnโt be for too long. Donโt worry.โ
Jerry was never one to dwell on things. He had other things to do.
Standing, he said, โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโll make a move first.โ
Rachel nodded and walked Jerry to the door.
His retreating figure made a sense of helplessness rise up Rachelโs chest. She knew that he had exhausted all his resources and contacts. Raising over one hundred million dollars in two days was practically impossible.
After Jerry left Rachelโs apartment, he didnโt run around looking for other sources of funding.
Instead, he stood on the roadside and hesitated for a long while before taking out his phone and dialing Hannahโs number.
The moment the call went through, he took a deep breath and said servilely, โMs. Abbot, Iโm Jerry.โ
