Chapter 907

Rachel stepped forward and called out to Ray and Sunny, who were crouching at the door. โ€œCome here. Donโ€™t scare our guest.โ€

The two dogs seemed to understand what Rachel meant; they wagged their tails and came bounding over to her. Their gaze darted occasionally to Jerry, filled with wariness.

โ€œThey are very guarded.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine.โ€

Rachel instructed the dogs to stay to one side before she headed upstairs.

When they entered the study, Jerry grabbed a chair and sat down, pulling out a stack of documents from his suitcase and pushing it toward Rachel.

โ€œThese are financing channels I found over the past two days, as well as some customers weโ€™ve worked with previously. Iโ€™ve asked around, and I can borrow around 30 million dollars. The interest rate is very high and is calculated by the dayโ€ฆโ€

Rachel glanced at the numbers on the documents and shook her head. โ€œ30 million dollars isnโ€™t enough. We need over a hundred million dollars.โ€

โ€œWhat should we do, then? If nothing else works, we can borrow from loan sharks.โ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ Rachel cut him off, her voice firm and unwavering. โ€œItโ€™ll be a bottomless pit. Weโ€™re not talking about thousands, but millions of dollars. Would they bother being loan sharks if they had that much money? Theyโ€™d open a company themselves!โ€

โ€œBut youโ€™ll be sued and perhaps jailed!โ€

Jerry stood up anxiously, his hands gripping the edge of the table. When he spoke, his voice was trembling.

โ€œYouโ€™re my boss and my family! If you hadnโ€™t taken me in, I wouldโ€™ve gone to jail! Why donโ€™tโ€ฆ Why donโ€™t I tell Hannah that I was the one who misappropriated company funds and that she should be suing me. Iโ€™ll go to jail on your behalf!โ€

Rachelโ€™s heart swelled at the sight of how anxious Jerry was getting for her sake. She patted his arm, signaling him to sit down.

โ€œJerry, I know youโ€™re doing this for my good, but I canโ€™t make things hard for you because of what I did. If I really let you take the blame, what would that make me?โ€

โ€œButโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo buts,โ€ Rachel said, cutting him off. There was a determined look in her eyes as she went on, โ€œIโ€™ve thought it through. If I canโ€™t raise the money I need in two daysโ€™ time, Iโ€™ll let nature take its course. I wonโ€™t push away the responsibility Iโ€™m supposed to take on.โ€

โ€œWhat about Mr. Hunt? Have you told him this? He surely wonโ€™t turn a blind eye.โ€

Jerry was giving this his very last shot.

Rachel shook her head. โ€œTylerโ€™s up to his ears dealing with his company. Didnโ€™t you see how hard heโ€™s been working the past two days? Heโ€™s trying to raise funds for me.โ€

Jerry saw how Rachel had set her mind to it, and it seemed they had exhausted all other options too.

โ€œAlright, then.โ€

Seeing him so anxious, Rachel patted him gently. โ€œAlright. All these things can be worked through. Even if I get sentenced to jail, it wouldnโ€™t be for too long. Donโ€™t worry.โ€

Jerry was never one to dwell on things. He had other things to do.

Standing, he said, โ€œIf thereโ€™s nothing else, Iโ€™ll make a move first.โ€

Rachel nodded and walked Jerry to the door.

His retreating figure made a sense of helplessness rise up Rachelโ€™s chest. She knew that he had exhausted all his resources and contacts. Raising over one hundred million dollars in two days was practically impossible.

After Jerry left Rachelโ€™s apartment, he didnโ€™t run around looking for other sources of funding.

Instead, he stood on the roadside and hesitated for a long while before taking out his phone and dialing Hannahโ€™s number.

The moment the call went through, he took a deep breath and said servilely, โ€œMs. Abbot, Iโ€™m Jerry.โ€
