Hannah seemed to have a change of mind when she said those words.

“Oh, that doesn’t seem like a good idea. We’re so far away from each other. It’ll be impossible for you to kneel before me!” she went on.

Rachel smirked. What she said next was like a basin of cold water poured over Hannah’s head.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but you probably won’t be able to see me kneel before you your entire life.”

“What do you mean?” Hannah sensed something amiss in the tone of Rachel’s voice.

“I’ll transfer two hundred million dollars to your account in one hour’s time. You’ll receive it soon.”

Hannah was shocked. “You managed to raise the funds? How could it be?! Someone named Jerry called me this afternoon to beg me to give you a few more days! How could you possibly raise the full sum in such a short time?”

“Don’t you know that my boyfriend has the Lewis family backing him up?” Rachel said smugly.

“So it was the Lewis family who gave you the money?” Hannah banged the table in anger.

She had thought that Rachel would be doomed this time. Who knew Rachel would have such a powerful backer helping her out?

“Again, I’m sorry to disappoint.”

Rachel didn’t expect Jerry to call Hannah to ask for a few days’ extension: Given how much Hannah hated her, she knew Hannah couldn’t have been nice to Jerry.

Hannah sneered. “Consider yourself lucky this time!”

With that, she hung up in anger.

Rachel heaved a sigh of relief and headed to the bank with Tyler to transfer the two hundred million dollars to the company.

The finance department soon called her to confirm that they received the full sum.

The weight on Rachel’s shoulders was finally lifted.

Tyler reminded her, “Wanna give Jerry a call?”

“Oh, yes. Go get the car, I’ll wait here for you.”

Meanwhile, Rachel called Jerry’s number.

“Hello, Jerry.”

“Rachel, what’s up?” Jerry’s voice sounded weak.

Rachel knew what was on his mind. “Are you worried about me?”

Jerry said listlessly, “Rachel, you know I’m very worried. Why don’t you consider letting me take the blame? You really don’t need to feel burdened by that.”

Warmth filled Rachel’s heart.

“Jerry, I made the right decision about you back then. You even called Hannah this afternoon to beg her for mercy. She probably gave you a difficult time, didn’t she?”

Jerry wondered if Hannah had called Rachel to tell her about their conversation.

Sensing the panic in his tone, Rachel told him the truth. “The Lewis family forked out the full sum to help me pay the compensation. Hannah can’t sue me now and everything’s settled.”

Jerry’s voice rose a pitch. “What? Is that true, Rachel? But why would the Lewis family…”
