Chapter 34: Bessie Wanted to Live in Sunset Vista

“Really don’t need to?” Ophelia looked a bit disappointed.

“No need!” Samuel said decisively.

Ophelia looked at Bessie. “Bessie?”

Bessie almost bit her silver teeth in anger; that little wretch Ophelia had done it on purpose! But she dared not say anything and could only force a smile. “No need…”

“Alright then,” Ophelia sighed and put away her phone. He glanced at the time again, feeling a bit impatient. “Is there anything else? If not, I will head back. Mr. Winford is still at home waiting for me!”

This place was no longer her home; she didn’t want to stay for even a second longer.

“Wait a minute, Ophelia, there was something else I wanted to tell you!” Erin suddenly spoke up.

Ophelia, who was about to turn and leave, stopped in her tracks.

Then I heard Erin say, “Bessie wanted to go to Sunset Vista to recuperate, so you took her back with you!”

“What?” Ophelia turned in shock, doubting that she had heard correctly.

“Bessie liked Sunset Vista and wanted to stay there for two days.” Erin’s tone was gentle, yet carried a sense of inevitability.

Bessie also looked forward with anticipation.

Ophelia instantly remembered Bessie’s feelings for Winford. Was she really so foolish as to bring back a woman who coveted her husband?

“Did you need to go to Sunset Vista to recuperate?” she mocked, pulling her lip in a sneer.

“Bessie was your sister, so what if she went to live in Sunset Vista for a while?” Samuel said unhappily. Just a moment ago, he felt a bit guilty towards Ophelia, but now seeing her hesitating and making excuses, he suddenly became unhappy again.

Ophelia said bluntly, “What do you think Sunset Vista is? Can just anyone go in?”

You still wanted to stay there for a while? What kind of dream were you having?

Samuel’s expression showed some discomfort. “Bessie is your sister, so how can it not be possible?”

Bessie bit her lip, slightly complaining, “Ophelia, you never even talked to Mr. Winford, so how do you know it wouldn’t work? Are you still blaming me? But I just apologized to you…”

Samuel became even more unhappy.

Ophelia smiled disdainfully. Where did Bessie get her confidence? Did she really think that Mr. Winford would agree just because she said so?

She took out her phone and said, “Okay, I will call Mr. Winford!”

Bessie’s eyes lit up in an instant, filled with anticipation.

Soon, the call was connected, but the voice that came from the phone was Graham’s.

“Madam, Mr. Winford did not have time at the moment. Did you have something to discuss?”

“Nothing much happened, it was just that Bessie wanted to stay at Sunset Vista, and I said no. She thought I had something against her, so she made a call to have Mr. Winford talk to her directly.”

“Madam, please wait a moment, I asked Mr. Winford,”

The other end of the phone fell silent. A few people over here waited nervously.

In a short while, Graham’s voice sounded again, but what he said was—

“Mr. Winford asked if the sister that the lady mentioned was the one who had run to Sunset Vista, saying that she wanted to marry Mr. Winford last time.”

Samuel suddenly turned his head and looked at Bessie in astonishment. Bessie’s expression suddenly froze. Ophelia almost laughed out loud and was already applauding Graham in her heart.

“Yes, it was her.”

Graham said, “Mr. Winford said that Sunset Vista was not a place that just anyone could enter, let alone those who were dubious and had ulterior motives.”

The words felt like a huge slap, striking Bessie hard across the face!

Ophelia smiled and tilted her head. “Bessie, did you hear that?”

Bessie’s face turned pale and then flushed with anger as she said, “Ophelia! Were you doing this on purpose? You must have colluded with someone!”

Graham: “Madam, Mr. Winford asked if you were being bullied and whether you wanted me to bring someone over.”

“Alright!” Samuel hurriedly shouted at Bessie.

Bessie suddenly fell silent.

Ophelia then replied to Graham leisurely, “No need, I will go back soon.”

She hung up the phone.

“Bessie, can you explain to me what Graham just said?!” Samuel immediately questioned Bessie.

“I…” Bessie broke out in a cold sweat. She knew how much Samuel valued the marriage, and if he found out that she had deliberately tried to sabotage it, it would be over!

Erin felt heartbroken for her daughter and quickly hugged her, saying, “Honey, there might be some misunderstanding in this. Don’t you know what kind of person Bessie is? How could she possibly do something like that!”

Bessie immediately said, “Yes! I was doing it to help Ophelia—”

“Bessie, you shouldn’t say such things!” Ophelia interrupted with a cold smile, “You went to seduce my husband and claimed it was for my sake?”

The surrounding servants also had subtle expressions, stealing glances at Bessie. To seduce someone else’s husband was supposedly for their own good; how shameless must one be to say such a thing!

Samuel was filled with curiosity and doubt, and he did not believe Bessie’s ridiculous explanation.

Bessie gritted her teeth and said, “That was because Ophelia was about to elope with someone! I was afraid that Mr. Winford would get angry and implicate our family, so I took the initiative to find Mr. Winford!”

“What? Elopement?!”

In an instant, all eyes turned to Ophelia again. Ophelia, however, remained unperturbed, showing not a trace of panic.

“One should speak with evidence. When did I ever say I wanted to elope? Why would I want to elope?”

“You certainly didn’t dare to admit it! But your affair with Mr. Cullen was not unknown to Dad. If it weren’t for your desire to elope with Mr. Cullen, would I have needed to seek out Mr. Winford? In the end, I almost sacrificed myself for you, and you still wronged me like this!”

Bessie covered her face and cried.

“Is what Bessie said true?” Samuel asked angrily.

Ophelia scoffed inwardly. Regarding the elopement, on the day she first went to Sunset Vista, Bessie had already gone home and complained in a roundabout way, hadn’t she? How could Samuel not have known about it! At that time, he didn’t say anything, but now he suddenly remembered and was about to explode? Even if his reflex arc was long, it shouldn’t be to such an extent!

All things considered, it still favored Bessie. Bessie finally managed to grasp a bit of leverage on him, so he naturally had to cooperate!

“I wasn’t out of my mind. Could Cullen compare to Mr. Winford? Why would I elope with him?” She denied it without hesitation.

“At that time, Bessie kept urging me, but fortunately, I didn’t listen to her!”

She smiled faintly and said, “I was wondering why Bessie kept trying to get Cullen and me to leave; it turned out she had her eyes on Mr. Winford!”

Ophelia: “If it’s slander, just ask Roger and you’ll find out!”

Roger was the driver who took her to Sunset Vista that day.

“Call Roger in!” Samuel ordered with a serious expression.

Bessie turned pale. Soon, Roger came.

Bessie spoke up before anyone else: “Roger, did you tell my dad whether Ophelia really wanted to elope that day? Now she doesn’t dare to admit it and is actually slandering me!”

Roger’s eyes flickered, and he understood, adopting a look as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.

Samuel: “Speak!”
